Wonderful kit. I see a lot of elements of the WW2 pack in the design. One of which the axe handle is fed through. Was for folding trench tool. Way cool.

You had a map of Texas assumed you from Texas. If I had waited to the end of the video ,I would have realized you're from New Mexico. Best Mexican food in the world. True art form. Thank you for the video.
@RavenRedwood8 жыл бұрын
I live in New Mexico so I really like your videos. This inspired me to get a haversack (old army issue but I can easily add buckles and sew in compartments. it has a rubberized waterproof liner though which is cool) and it's a great day bag and light weight to carry in my pack. Although I prefer to weave my molle. I have a pouch and canteen and they are much more comfortable when walking to have them secure instead of hanging.
@JunkyardFox8 жыл бұрын
nice! a lot of the old army issue equipment is great stuff, especially if modified to suit your needs and likes.

I have been camping and bivouacking since I was in the Cub Scouts, and I have owned and used many haversacks over the years. Many. The Hidden Woodsmen version is certainly one of the very best I haver ever used. right now, it is the one I most frequently use. I don't think you can go wrong. Very well built. Nice video.

Wonderful review. I just traded some gear for an older version of one of Malcom's Haversacks on BushCraftUSA and can't wait to get it. I also am enjoying the rest of your channel! I was stationed at White Sands Missile Range back in the 80s when I was enlisted Army and was one of the Scout Masters and Explorer Leaders on post. We got the kids out to the Needles as often as we could. Can't say that I miss the desert at all (I don't do well at 112˚F no matter how 'dry' the heat, and I vastly prefer the same boreal forests here in New England that Malcom designs his gear in) but it was always a good adventure and it is good to see someone enjoying it as well as you seem to.

Thank you for reviewing the bag and your gear. It seems to me that some items are superfluous. There is little food, and it’s probably worth taking more water in the desert. Unless, of course, there are not enough sources of it on the route. Tell me, how comfortable is it for your shoulder to carry a full bag all day? I understand that everyone chooses for themselves. It’s just that I’m used to a standard backpack, although I won’t refuse a medium-sized bag to go to the radial exits from the camp. Thanks

Where did you get your grill? I’ve been looking all over for a portable, but decently sized grill. I find plenty on Amazon, etc., but they are always very narrow and pretty short. well, if you want to live up to the "historic-style-fashion" I think this is ok (and I like traditional gear and historic tradition) but even as a minimalist I would add some little things like loops or D rings in the inside of one of the pockets in order to fasten the things I really do not want to loose. Perhaps a loop to be able to fix the bag to the belt? ... (and there are many other things which I will definitively modify myself). The idea of putting light colors inside is good! it is annoying if you look for something and darkness won't let you see a thing... Something I would really like though would be to have these bags in a "natural version" also (waxed canvas, leather, brass/wood/horn/bone buttons/buckles etc... although again, this is also a marketing issue). For the environmental conscious hiker this would be an asset (nylon cordura and the chemicals for impregnating are not totally ok or safe), otherwise these are nice products, and it is VERY important to support local craftsmanship!

I'm a little bit fatigued with the Hidden Woodsmen haversack hype already out there, a small cynical part of my brain says "yeah, it's a bag", but it is a cool little bag and your cool thumbnail sucked me in. Love the scenery, music and gear ideas.
@JunkyardFox7 жыл бұрын
gotta say, its an excelletn top notch, beautiful bag. you dont necessarily need one ot get outdoors but if youre ever looking for a trusty bag that can be customized to your taste, give this one a try.
@eachday95387 жыл бұрын
Yes it is, and I probably shouldn't worry about the hype, the big companies get that too and we just expect it. It is a good thing that one of the smaller players who puts out quality gear tailored specifically to a genre is being supported by the "community". Carry on, don't mind me ;-)

the ferro rod in my pack is a gerber bear grylls ferro rod. surprisingly a very good, affordable rod.
