Beautiful. Absolutely stunning. My father was an Executive Officer with the SP. One of the first management trainees. Sent to college for 3.5 years everything paid and that included a promoted salary. Left Sacramento for college in El Paso. With the engineering background after he quickly promoted and eventually helped lead the Communications department. He was very involved in the concept, engineering- development and implementation of a company called SPCC. Southern Pacific Communications company. Southern Pacific had the largest privately owned microwave system in the world then. From that the SPCC was born to which you would later know as SPRINT. My father retired as the Assistant General Superintendent of Communications- System. Truly in his department he went from being hired as a ditch digger/grunt. Then lineman and after college promoting all the way to the number two position in that department. The railroad had incredible assets. I think what's lost in many model railroading layouts is you all use handhelds and electronics. With the real thing if there was no communications there was no running a railroad. Oddly you never see telephone poles with wires which were prior to those microwave towers that the Southern Pacific had all over there company. Never see any of that in a layout. None. You have a lot to be proud of. Hopefully that grandchild is picking up on a lot of his grandfather's great traits. You truly are an artist.😮
@bradjoseph1617 күн бұрын
Not that's interesting. SP is also a favorite of mine and used have lots of SP stock that eventually became sprint. I have lots of books about Donner Pass which was slot tougher railroad than anything the UP had. My favorite diesel is an SP SD 40T. You can see it on the top level on the left when I describe the staving yards.
@mikeingeorgia17 күн бұрын
The telephone poles are called “pole line”. They are mostly used to make the signals work. I’ve been involved in replacing a good bit of it on Norfolk Southern. The biggest problem with modeling it would be the incredible amount of time it would take to install, and it would inevitably get damaged over and over trying to reach down to handle the trains

My daughter and son-in-law get all the credit for production.....they do a good job. Those hobby is making and selling projection videos to show for holidays. Car cards....most of the time. @bobfinkenbiner80037 күн бұрын
I also enjoy the operating aspect of the hobby. My car cards always have contents/industry info but I suspect most operators never read them. Because I model Colorado, we get some exotic loads, ie mining dynamite or army explosives for special handling.

The Worlds Largest Steam Engine ever made was the S1 owned by the Pennsylvania Railroad at a total length of 140 ft 2+1⁄2 in (42.74 m) the Union Pacific Big Boy was only 132 ft 9+1⁄4 in (40.47 m) FACTs!!!
