Very helpful, thank you! I have just started my tarot journey, after thinking about it for a long time. I have done several daily draws. The first one I ever did and one I just did right now were both The Hierophant. Both times, and none of the other times, I shuffled quite a while and was specifically contemplating my tarot journey, what it might end up meaning for me, how I would prefer to do daily draws in the morning but hadn’t yet, etc. So, this is fascinating and eye opening. This card came to me when I was questioning a relationship. The night before,some truths came out. I realized while asleep,that I was not being treated well in the relationship. I was lied to. I started asking myself what was right or important to me. I started realizing that perhaps this relationship was a learning experience and it is time to let it go. I woke up and asked the cards. This was the first one that came out. We both wanted to break up but no one wanted to say it first..indeed...religion did come between us. Her parents were not OK with the relationship. Because we were both women. The heirophant had many deep meanings..indeed the religion of Christianity was blocking her parents from fully accepting us. It controlled her self love in the relationship. Affected our bond. Upon other things. I woke up and drew this card and was the first to say..we have to break up. It gave me clarity. Dave thank you for posting. I also find this card can be a challenge in some readings. In addition to the area of guidance I also focus on the imagery and meaning around higher education, the guidance centres on the formal institutions where the knowledge is passed down, there is an imbalance of power or preception of imbalance ie you only get the knowledge if you follow the rules, process etc. Its a very dynamic card. I got this while doing the Biddy New year spread in the Career, Work and finances and I'm struggling to tie it in that context. We own our own estate gardening business.... If I'm getting it right is it saying we need to follow tradition and do things by the book this year? Maybe not as many creative endeavors but this will be a more mundane year? Possible promotion? Or do we need to be a better teacher to our workers? Ok, a little lost.

Kira Woods I really appreciate you getting back to me. I'm not totally sure what you mean by "directing too and away" maybe I'm not that far yet? But I did do a clarification card and got the sun. That seemed to put it in perspective for me and tied into the reading....I think. I've enjoyed watching your explanation of the cards. Thank you. After doing that reading something really clicked to me. That these cards are more Essences vrs form. The Essences maybe 'connection' or 'rebirth' or 'levity' in our lives and as readers we are trying to put form to it. Like connection might mean a new relationship, an old one moving closer, or self. Darn, I feel I'm not explaining it right but it just clicked for me and I think will make doing my readings easier.

My comment was in reference to remembering sometimes to reflect on the energy being not about more of like tradition but less of what you think is known to you as tradition and more a new way of seeing tradition in a new light. Great explanation for this card. Sometimes it leaves me perplexed. I did a 2 draw card reading asking what concerns does a particular person have about communicating with me. I got the Hierophant and 5 of Swords. Two 5's! Would this person feel that I'd be too different from him and that I would challenge him?

Remember when you do a spread you are exploring your role, the energy around you within the relationship. Asking a question what does another think or feel is fraught with easy misconception of the energy being revealed. Change your question focus to something like what can i do to enhance communication with x person, what is the greatest challenge i will experience with x person, what is the energy around my relationship with x person etc. All relationships are a union of energy and we can clearly see our role, influence, opportunity which informs us of the whole. Its like the relationship is another person and you are an integrated part of that including how communication does or does not flow. You may find this change in focus will open your understanding to what you can explore to open your communication withthe person and all communication in your life. Blessings and light 🙏😊

@@kirawoods That's what I needed to know and hear. Sometimes changing the question makes all the difference. Since I'm not an advanced reader, I'm still learning on how to formulate better questions so they're not so complex or confusing. I've seen that in the past with a card reading I did where I was not asking the question correctly. Oh my goodness that was an eye-opening learning experience. So I totally get what you mean. I'll do another reading but will wait a few days and use the way you formulated the questions. Thank you, Kira!

Depending on your question they may not be opposites as such ie working at odds. But they are more working together as one energy with both energies together. So feel the High Priestess energy and then look to how the Hierophant adds clarity to your interpretation. Blessings and light 🙏🌹
