I love the fast version of this song! Its captures the rawness of sadness instead of the despair of it which is what Im used to with this song

Great arrangement. If you don't like it, you don't have to listen to it.

This song makes me want to go to a graveyard and pick a random grave and sit there and wonder what their life was like

I do that at my two local military and veterans cemeteries. If you feel led to go and do this sometime, the Fallen appreciate the reverence.

This is an utterly appalling version. The songwriter, Eric Bogle, is a neighbour. I wouldn’t dare play this for him!

I am a fan of the High Kings. They have done many wonderful renditions of classic songs. This however, is not one of them. I can only think of this as an abomination.

Agreed mate. They should delete this one and burn the sheet music in hell! ☺️ 🔥

This version captures the raw nature and the curiosity of the singer. It doesn’t make sense for it to only be sad and depressing. The singer doesn’t know William McBride. He’s looking at the grave and wondering what the person’s life (and death) was like. It’s an inquiry, not a dirge. And either way, sorrow and speed are not mutually exclusive. You can have happy slow songs. Why should you shun sad fast ones?

As much as I love the high kings... this is a f****** disgrace! Stop meddling where meddle isn’t needed! It’s supposed to be a solemn song! The First World War wasn’t exactly a bloody ceilidh was it?! How can they do such a great job with say, their version of Streets of London’, and then ruin this classic?
@somer42133 жыл бұрын
They’ve got another version that’s much slower and sadder, it’s in the album Memory Lane
