I work in pediatrics. I never got attached to any of my young charges, but there was one little girl with autism who I worked with and helped to overcome her sensory processing challenges. She was a tiny little three year old who was nonverbal, legally blind, and cried something fierce at changes in routine and loud noises. She liked quiet, steady noises, and sensory input in the form of deep pressure massages. I helped her overcome her challenges and function in a typical classroom environment, and developed a strong bond with her in spite of myself. Sometimes I sang this song to her quietly when she was scared or upset to calm her down. It’s been a few years since she moved on to another program in a different school. This song makes me think of her.

This is a wonderful Scottish song, sung by Irish Artists, the wonderful and historic connection between the two Celtic nations. Alba agus Èire Abù!

My partner played this song and sang this song to our daughter as a newborn at night to settle her, now six years on, this is the song we play every night (on repeat) so she can fall asleep ❤

My grandfather was 100 % Irish and my mom and her mom and sisters celebrate his life every year in Spring Lake for Saint Patrick’s day which is the day he died back in 2009 !!! He was an amazing man who created a beyond beautiful life - I was young when he died and so wish he was still with us today , every Saint Patrick’s Day is emotional for our family because we think of him !! However we all know he is in a better place now and each and everyone in the Honan family carries a piece of him !! My grandma has been alone since March 17 , 2009 and we understand how she feels about him - he was her everything and we are always there for her !!! This song is one song that reminds us of him ( this song is the song that my mom and her mom and sisters sing in Spring Lake , NJ ) We miss you everyday Pop Pop - Forever our Lassie - RIP Barry M Honan Dec 9 , 1934 - March 17 , 2009 !

My Mom enjoyed seeing Ireland twice. SHE THOUGHT IT WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE SHE HAD EVER SEEN ON Earth. SHE WAS UNEASY ABOUT DRIVING ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD..OR W THE WHEEL OF THE CAR ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE..LIKE THE POSTMAN WHO DELIVERS MAIL..SNAIL IN THE USA.

This is so melancholic, and it's lyrics are hauntingly beautiful and seemingly immortal.

I learned first from the Clancy brothers version, then I taught and recorded it with my young daughters on my home four track recorder. It was a fun time recording our first song together. It is a very beautiful song/melody and now part of my family. I am a Mexican-American (Chicano) who loves world music, and loves Irish/Scottish melodies. Thanks to all the comments with anecdotes and history lessons.

I 1st heard this song years while watching a special on hospice in Ireland. The family sang this song to their grandfather who was within hours of death. His face was so happy and peaceful. It was such beautiful event. I fell in love with the song!
