I met Gil Moore once at a Canadian Musician Magazine seminar at the Royal York Hotel in 1990; and Gil was such a gentleman. Gil is a very smart person and savvy businessman. Gil was TRIUMPH's managing partner and he also designed TRIUMPH's impressive stage productions. When Rik EMMETT left TRIUMPH in September 1988, it broke my heart. I remember reading that the two camps sued each other and that the legal proceedings dragged on for seven years, so there was bad blood between the parties. There was a communication breakdown between Rik and Gil. If Rik and Gil had sat down with each other and agreed to take a two year break from TRIUMPH, Rik could have recorded a solo album while remaining in TRIUMPH.

Such a great band. When I think of rock in the 80s, Triumph always comes to mind...

Nice interview, John. Triumph was the bomb back in the day. I'd love to see you do some in-depth interviews of artists focusing on particular albums. For example, do a half-hour or even an hour just on Allied Forces. Or Just a Game or Thunder Seven. What the vibe was like in the studio, how the songs came together, interesting behind-the-scenes stories, what specific instruments, mics & other equipment they used, song and/or recording details that the average listener wouldn't have any way of knowing about, etc. Gil would be great for something like that. Rik and Mike would too, of course.

All the guys in Triumph are super cool...I got to meet Gil a few times out and about in Mississauga... Ric use to have the same Doctor as I did ... I almost moved into Ric's brother Russ's place ( he had the basement of his house for rent)... I also knew Russ from his shop in Oakville (truly a nice guy RIP)... Mike is the only one I have yet to see out on the streets of Mississauga... I even knew Phil X from his dad's restaurant... Phil use to do an open jam every Sunday at his dad's restaurant at Westdale Mall... Good Times!

My Triumph story. I was living in Canada during my freshman year of high school and the song " Say What You Will" by Fastway came on the radio. I didn't know it was them at first and I asked some classmates who sang the song. They said it was probably Triumph. I bought Allied Forces and Never Surrender to find the song. I eventually bought "Fastway" but became a Triumph fan in the process.

very interesting. Gil seems to be a very intelligent person. Knows how to talk and to explain things. And I'm happy the band sort out their differences.

As we all know, Rush is supposedly Canada's top band. But, in my book TRIUMPH was a very close 2nd. They made some beautiful rocking music. IMHO TRIUMPH was a better band, due to the outstanding vocals of Gil and Ric. I and many others would love to have TRIUMPH do a tour. But, I totally understand that Gil's body isn't up to the physical level needed to perform at the level they are accustomed to. Ric Emmett stated awhile back, that it would take Gil 6-9 months of training to get back to the physical shape he would need to tour. And after all that, they're not sure if he could make it thru the whole tour. Ric says they'd prefer not to put Gil in that kinda situation. I totally get that, I personally have things I wish I could still do myself. But, can't no more. Sucks getting older.

Rush IS and was Canada's top band. I grew up with both. Triumph had a sort stay, and 3-4 great records. Rush was 40 years, several platinum and gold records. I like Triumph also, but sorry its Rush.

Yet another example of how the stars we assume were born great at what they do. Incredible talent for sure but it’s the hard work in practice that allows skills to shine.
