I would love it if someone published Zatch Bell in its entirety. The ideal release for me would be how Viz is releasing Fist of the North Star and Fullmetal Alchemist. They could release twenty two hardcover volumes that each have one and a half volumes of material. Each cover would look like a different colored spellbook, but there would also be a dust jacket with cover art.

I could be wrong but I have heard that Viz Media apparently still reprints those Gintama volumes from time to time when they go out of print. If that is the case then I'm not sure what is going on with the licence. I really want it to be available in English as now many people know about the series. But tbh, when the anime was running its last arc, it would have been a wise decision to start releasing it again from back then. Now that everything Gintama related is animated and over for now, I'm not too hopeful of Viz planning on releasing it English for a while.

I've heard other translators who do fan translations talk about the difficulty of translating Gintama because of all the jokes/references. Sometimes it's hard to translate it in another language, so we could assume that one of the reasons Viz discontinued Gintama in English was because of its very complex dialogue.

A very informational video as always! It's interesting to see the differences between the English manga market and my local one, the Spanish. Some of the series in here were not discontinued in Spain but had very low sales, while others like City Hunter were abandoned for decades and have recently gotten picked up and published in new editions. There's been a retro revival recently with the type of series that get licensed here, so I'm sure that some of these classics will get the editions that they deserve in English too. ^^

A hard core Saiyuki fan here and I can't even begin to say how frustrated i am with how close TokyoPop was to finishing the final volumes of reload before pulling the plug on us. It was just as the creator Kazuya Minekura got really sick as well and stopped regularly updating the series. So its a shame to know her hard work on these chapters haven't seen an American release. There are also other parts of this series that never got an American licensing, such as Saiyuki Ibun, Saiyuki Reload Blast (the most recent series still unfinished) and Saiyuki Gaiden. Gaiden in particular is a completed series where the manga doesn't have an official translation but the 4-part anime OVA actually did get licensed in the states with official dubs and everything. Another series that never got a full license release in America that I was a huge fan of was Vampire Princess Yui, the spin off manga to the Vampire Princess Miyu series. With Saiyukis newest anime having just come out this season (which also got picked up for American licensing and is a direct anime adaptation of Reload) I'm really hoping Kodensha picks up thats it still a very sought after series and releases the full thing here in the states. If I remember correctly some fans even made a petition to Kodansha asking for Reload to get republished state-side.

I believe Reborn still has a chance as recently a new production commette has been formed for the franchise and a new twitter account has been opened for promotions of the series. There is a chance that the anime can get a revival or even possibly, a continuation of the anime like Bleach TYBW. We will have to wait and see what they do with the IP. But if the anime returns, there is a chance Viz will start releasing them again.

One series not on this list, but also got it’s English print discontinued: Cyborg 009. TokyoPop only published the first 10 volumes of the manga. Since Seven Seas has published other Ishinomori manga, Kamen Rider and Gorenger, I’m hoping this will mean they will get the rights to Cyborg 009.🤞

There are so many great series that have been discontinued in English. Wild Adapter, Togainu no Chi, Maiden Rose, Does the Flower Blossom, etc. I would be happy if any of those even got a digital release. It always hurts when there's only one or two volumes left in the series.

I would love to see Nodame Cantible make a comeback, it's one of my all-time favorite rom coms and I would love to have a physical copy of it. REBORN! is the second one I would love to have in my collection. I think reviving it as a collector's edition like the FMA series would help it sell in the US.

Nodame is licensed rescued digitally. Reborn has no hope because there aren't enough sales. Fanbase hates the translation, and many libraries will opt to buy something else than carry a book about a kid who gets shot in the head to get powerful. I didn't even see it at my local library until Volume 9 (which sounds like a donation dump from Viz)

Out of this list, the one I want fully published the most is Zatch Bell. I loved the anime so much and when I got into manga collecting about 4 years later, the manga was already canceled (although I didn't know it was canceled at the time, I just hadn't gotten around to collecting it yet) and at the time I could only buy a few books a year. I did find vol. 4 at a table that was selling used manga at an anime convention a few years ago (it was vol. 4), which I still have and I planned on buying the rest of the series eventually, but then on one of your videos I think last year you mentioned that it was discontinued in English and I decided not to bother with it and just hope that it gets picked up by another publisher. One I want continued that is not on this last is Beet the Vandel Buster, I had read vol. 1 at my local library in 2015 and enjoyed it. I also hope that someday Rave Master gets reprinted. There's no way I'm paying $50+ per volume. Fairy Tail is still pretty popular and Mashima has a series that is currently ongoing plus the Fairy Tail spin off (I know that one isn't completely by him), so I really hope that they see this as a good time to bring the series back.

I have a lot of things I haven’t decided if I am interested in them or not that sound interesting. Three series you listed are on that list, those being Zatch Bell (which is probably the one I am most likely to want), Gintama, and Kindaichi Case Files. I am uncertain what other series I like might fall under that. I know a couple of series I have were discontinued, but I think they were just discontinued and not just discontinued in English. All the ones I can think of right now have ongoing light novel series or have a completed light novel series, so at least I read more of the series. I also decided against getting a book recently because while it seemed kind of interesting, it had been discontinued (two of six released) and I wasn’t interested enough to risk getting into it and then it just stopping. The title of that one was “First King Adventure.”

I understand why VIZ only publishes best ofs for long running series like Golgo 13 and oishinbo but I would LOVE to read those series in their proper order starting from ch1.

Reborn is one of my Top 10s, but I agree with EVERYTHING here extensively. Cobra, City Hunter, Kinnukuman, so many critical manga unpublished. Even the manga that are inaccessible even if they were published is a true shame, stuff like Trigun. Fist of the North Star only recently getting published again fully is also shocking, and series like Slam Dunk are essentially too expensive for the average reader which is crazy since it's so huge.

For the manga not yet collected in English, I'd say I'm most interested in Kingdom, Billy Bat, Akumetsu, and a guilty pleasure Yankee JK Kuzuhana Chan. For ones partially available: Blood Blockade Battlefront (only part 1 was released in English, and the manga is currently moving onto part 3), and Steel Ball Run will inevitably get a release. And then semirelated, there are too many out of print manga that I wish could get reprinted.

Just wanted to say the picture you showed at 6:00 is not the sequel of Zatch Bell, but rather the complete edition (or perfect edition as they call it in the US) of the original series. It’s published and printed by the mangaka’s own company which he set up after falling out with Shogakukan, so if Viz can work something out with him directly, there might be a chance of these getting released in the US!

The digital Cobra editions out there are actually based off of a 1995 color release that collects the several sequel series that ran in Super Jump, alongside some new colored editions of some of the older arcs from the original run, but not in order and the longer arcs didn't get this treatment. So it's technically not complete as the vast majority of the original 18 volume run is yet to come here. Crack dream of mine is for Viz to release hardcovers based of the 2005 Kanzenbans but i'll know that will never happen. Those old Viz floppies also take their covers from the 1988 Jump Comics Deluxe release.

As a huge dark fantasy fan, and a big metalhead, Bastard!! Is easily in my top 5 of manga that needs to be released/re-released in English. I’d agree with Crows/Worst needing an English adaptation as well. I can hope, that with the popularity of Tokyo Revengers anime, and the recent announcement of publishers finically releasing it in English, that more Bancho/Bosozoku Manga like Crows, Holyland, and the like will catch on. Dark fantasy and bancho manga are the best for raw fight scenes, and gritty real life details that you just don’t get in any other genre. It pains me to see the ridiculous amount of bad manga that gets released in the U.S, when titles like these just go nowhere. I mean, do we really need more shounen titles, when we can’t even get viable reprints of series like Ubel Blatt and Banana fish?

So one very minor correction that I don't blame you for not mentioning cuz it really is small, Tokyopop didn't actually complete Rave Master, what happened was they got up to volume 32 of 35 but then Kodansha took all their licenses and eventually got shut down, Kodansha just kinda threw us a bone and released the last 3 volumes of Rave Master in an omnibus and for the longest time that was the only volume available in print tho recently I checked and it looks like even that volume is out of print now so my question is when're they gonna fully rerelease it so I can read it!

The Fate franchise is pretty cursed in regards to English releases; both the Fate/stay night and Fate/Zero manga runs were discontinued in the 2000's before the series got really popular in the west, not to mention the countless side series and spin offs that have never had anything resembling an English release. It's been getting a bit better more recently with them releasing one or two of the smaller/newer series releasing recently, but I hope someone can publish the more major ongoing/completed titles.
