This one is quite good. Troughton is an abosolute hoot here, smacking guys heads against the tables and disguising himself is so hialrious. There's some real tension here too. I wouldnt mind to get some of this one back some day.

I’ve never been able to watch classic who but this marathon is doing a great job standing in for the serials themselves- you explain the episodes so well, and i’m excited to continue with this marathon and continue falling in love with classic who! Thank you for doing this :)

troughton really is good in this-sinister, funny, clever and definately a character ‘playing’ at being human. He lacks some of his later warmth but that is surely an example of character growth. The current makers of Who should have the courage to do a pure historical. Great review as always 👍😁

I watched the recon of the Highlanders fairly recently and loved it - the new cast inject huge energy into it, and I just cannot see this story being told in this way with earlier tardis crews; there's a sort of madcap improv feel to it, with everyone coming up with clever schemes and rouses, robbery, Troughton in drag etc etc, so the real world setting helps as it adds danger and a structure to what could be just silliness, so that we get the comedy and the horror together, which works wonders. More stories like this would've been lovely, but alas, it wasn't to be.

Troughtons' run as the Doctor remains by far my favorite and imo the best and if anyone tries to debate me on this i have a fail proof argument....when I say run 🤫 run 👀.........RUN!!!🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂

this is right under The Faceless Ones(my favorite Troughton story) in my most desired recoveries list. I would give anything for the highlanders to be found, even trade another story

The pivotal crossover with “Outlander”. Oh, this arrived, earlier. I have visited Culloden…learned due to this story. My parents, had friends in Derby, the south where Jacobite Scots reached, and Wintered, and pushed back - statute of the Bonnie Prince, on horse by Derby’ church, in adjacent park. 🥃 Scots! Welcome to Jamie!

The story of The Highlander must be found!

I've just started watching classic who, and think Jamie is by far my favourite companion already. Where did you get these episodes though, they aren't on iPlayer

Missing episodes exist as either narrated soundtracks or (if not animated and released commercially) as 'reconstructions' using a combination of production stills, telesnaps and the surviving audio recording. I've had these for a while so not sure where they can be found these days but I'm sure they're floating around...

They aren’t on BBC iPlayer because they’re missing. They’ve been released on CD.

Note:Fraser Hines is attempting a Highlander Scots accent here (this would soon merge down into a more general Scots accent)🎩

The Doctor doesn't meet his 'soulmate'. Jamie's merely an action person that the Doctor can use as a surrogate for audience explanations (plus a touch of light relief).

Last "proper" historical until 1982...so Pat's only one before they gave up mixing them and scifi🎩
