And a theme tune taken from some obscure cop show?

I'm pretty sure Mr David Wiseman's "minder" in that piece at 18:05 is... Donald Dewar?
@DBIVUK Жыл бұрын
It was - usual arrangement being to have a neighbouring constituency MP do this job. Dewar also had the recent experience of winning a tough fought Glasgow byelection in Garscadden in 1978.

It was the year of John Paul II's visit to the the UK and someone went up to Jenkins and asked if he would vote to keep the Pope out. Woy couldn't understand the Glaswegian accent, thought the question was about pork and answered Yes, he would, if the pork was diseased...

Roy Jenkins-the only thing he ever fought for was a corner table at Le Gavroche.

The SDP defection was far more damaging to Labour than anything Tony Benn's challenge to the 1981 Deputy leadership..
@zeddeka11 ай бұрын
There's quite a lot of evidence that the SDP actually saved Labour from an even worse defeat in 1983. The siphoned off a lot of votes that would otherwise have gone to the Conservatives.

@@markbailey1970 You realise Benn inherited the title of Viscount Stansgate when his father died, yes? He had to renounce this peerage in order to remain in the House of Commons. Whether he put his wealth & property into trust, I don't know.
