In the Spring Himalayan climbing season of 2019, a team of 8 Spanish mountaineers would attempt to ascend Himlung Himal, which is otherwise known as the least deadly peak above 7,000m (22,966 ft) in the Himalayas. This is the story of their fateful trip to the peak.

Once again I was about to go to sleep, I was already in getting up from my chair when I got the notification on my phone, when I saw it was Mr. MM I knew I just couldn't miss the content fresh from the oven.

I may have said that before (many times, I'm afraid). The story, your voice and accent, your narration with a great background music and a backdrop of related pictures, it all makes up for a real experience of that kind of story. Great performance.

I climbed it in 2022 as the youngest German to do so (see my channel for the videos). A few points: the intro Pic shows Nemjung from Himlung Base, not Himlung itself. I know it cause I took this exact picture lol. It has low mortality, but the main problem I see that a lot of climbers are not really well prepared for it cause they think it's "an easy 7.000m peak". It's relatively easy, but still 7.000m... As you said, it's not very technical, although (depending on your expedition) the load carrying and the steep ice wall below camp 3 are quite a challenge

Was returning to base camp the right decision here? Was there any chance of summiting under these conditions? Any comment? Thx
@adidoesultra9777

@@fmrmrmr it's always hard to judge people after it happened and tell them what they should have done. High altitude really gets to your brain, your decision making gets really bad and everyone wants to summit. But generally it's always best to get to a camp as low as possible if that's safely possible. So yeah, descending is always a good idea

I watched tons of mountain climbing videos on this channel so I decided to climb one because I’m stupid. I climbed the tallest in the Rockies (really not super hard) with my fiancé. It’s super pretty to get above the alpine line but even though I trained night and day for six months and my fiancé sat on the couch watching Netflix, she had no trouble with altitude and I did. Her family is from a mountainous region of southern china and mine is from the Netherlands. I truly believe her genes prevented her from feeling dizzy with altitude. Meanwhile, with my generations of fighting the sea genes crossing the summit ridge I felt like the whole world was spinning. Don’t go mountain climbing if you can avoid it.

The world's greatest mountaineers who scale great heights without oxygen are not Chinese descended mountain people. I doubt genes has anything to do with her having the capacity for high altitude that you lack. Even amongst Nepalese, Pakistani and Chinese high altitude dwellers the capacity for withstanding higher altitude vary enormously depending solely on the individual. Just acclimatize better next time and happy climbing.

I'm the same way, altitude seems to affect me more than others. I can barely start to notice it around 9000ft and it gets worse from there. I have no idea why, never looked into it. It doesn't mean I can't do it, I just need more time to acclimatize than some.

Mountains in Colorado dont count, yea theyre 16,000ft tall but you can drive to 15,000ft. Not quite the same bud, but its probably for the best since it sounds like crocheting might be more your speed. Im sure it all made a good Reddit post though. Now please dont leave your city ever again

I imagine the narrator having a morbid job like a mortician would sound pitching the high end coffins during a funeral booking or the autopsy dude who can eat a sammich while they dig around someone's intestines, completely detached from dealing with death. Maybe he's a Grim Reaper, like Dead Like Me, simply reading his diary on YT as a way to earn income because Reapers don't actually get paid, they have to get a day job to pay the rent and whatnot.

What's crazy is that you never see climbers with much or over extensive body fat which would would really help them stay warm in certain situations just a little longer. Either you're fit enough to do it and don't have much time in the cold. Or, you're not and would survive in the cold a little longer. Lol
