I was surprised to see him exposing the links of neo Nazis fighting for Ukraine and being rewarded by the government. He also made a video proving that the German army had a substantial number of Jews in their ranks. That's also a touchy subject but a very important one. One that mainstream media would never dare approach.

there is a phenomon called the MTV generation, where MTV's massive popularity in its early days made the TV producers believe the youth only cares about fast paced flashy images and no substance. It's at trend that just won't die and it doesn't help that this attitude made its way into Hollywood movies as well, especially after 9/11. It's this concept that led to educational film no longer being shown on TV and so-called documentaries that are half-assed and just an excuse to sell advertising slots. Hell, today they put more effort into the ads than the actual broadcasts

Of course they are, they are backstories, school program simply dont have so much time for details. There's many other topics to be covered superficially. School's History classes weren't made to please the ww2 aficionado, thats a fantasy that the nerds should forget about it yet they keep complaining on comments like that. 🤷🏼‍♂️

These stories are not just incredible to listen to but they also provide insight into the actual people involved in what made history historical. Mark reveals the human side of them as best he can without making any excuses for the choices. This ends up making historical figures better understood even if not forgiven. One must understand that most people would themselves take advantage of knowing or being related to someone that could put you in a better position in life (disregarding what happens out of sight). Not many of us would say no to some sort of promotion if you didn't know that crimes against humanity were taking place. All in all, thank you Mark for your presentations and making history more human and less text book.

The best thing about your videos is that you don’t add your own narrative or your own personal feelings into the equation, you just retell extremely interesting history. It can be tiresome trying to learn about certain topics especially when it comes to history and have the narrator/historian treat you like a child, bombard you with “this is bad” and seek to form an opinion for you. It often just becomes a lesson on morality instead of history. Thank you for your great work. One of the best channels on KZbin.

One more vote for GFM Model. For his last moments, I find the book "Battle for Ruhr Pocket" written by Derek Zumbro really helps. The book dedicates a whole chapter to eye witness accounts of Model's staff officers who were with him until his last days.

As time goes by and history is studied less emotionally Model's reputation, has shifted from master of defense and man of great honor to overrated as to ability and hard core Nazi admirer of the Third Reich's extermination camps, use of slave labor, and war crime treatment of POW's & civilians. Just the opposite of the continually improving reputation of Kesselring as a military leader and man of respect for civilization. Model was definitely a "good riddance".

I have to feel a little sorry for Ernst. Considering his name he most likely wanted to do the right thing and fight even though the war was lost, setting an example as it were. (Probably the same reason older brother Gephard went back in the army in 1939.) Another good one Doctor Felton, I didn't know Himmler had another brother.

It’s natural enough to have some empathy. When you watch a movie like Downfall, you soon understand the sense of being trapped in a temporary pocket of safety, with everything coming apart. We can feel sorry for Nazis... but they wouldn’t have felt sorry for us. Fascism was (is... e.g. modern Russia) a mental health crisis on a national scale.

@@gdutfulkbhh7537 when examining the Battle of Berlin I have a hard time seeing the concept of good guys and bad guys, all I see is a lot of suffering millions of people from many corners of the world that are only there because of the actions of their leaders, because of the violent nature of fascism and communism, and that out of the ashes there will be no real winner because one of those ideologies was going to survive and continue its reign of terror.

As always, a brilliantly formatted and well researched piece on some of the less well known but nonetheless interesting aspects of WW2 history. Having had grandfathers who served on opposing sides in the war pricked my interest in WW2 history, especially as my German grandfather was relatively well known in naval historical circles for his part in the Battle of the Denmark Strait.

Must once again take my hat of for yet another great story from Mark Felton. Short but yet filled with information. He really finds alot of small pieces/stories from the WW2 history that makes it even more interesting. From stories of heroes to stories about tanks involved in small yet significant and important battles, Mark takes the listener even deeper into WW2. I wonder where he got the interest from. My interest in WW2 was founded by my father who was born in 1922 and was 18 when the Hermans , sorry, Germans invaded our country in 1940. A living history book. Keep up the good work Mark, wishing you and all listeners/viewers a good new year, always looking forward to hear your stories.
