Good evening, Sir. I have got a doubt regarding the concept of "missing middle". Indian economy is said to have shifted gears from agriculture sector to services sector i.e., primary to tertiary sector neglecting secodary sector i.e., manufacturing sector for its economic growth. As per this, "missing middle" is about low contribution of manufacturing sector to Indian Economy. Is my understanding correct? Thank you, Sir

true... this is what I was aware of. It was mentioned in one the ES 2-3 years back.

No, in this context missing middle refers to the absence of medium sized firms in our country . There are either too large firms or too small firms. This can be attributed to the design of govt policies and interventions (like supporting startups and small sized msme's ) in the backdrop of which a large no. of firms tend to be small in order to reap the benifits of govt policies

Actually you are correct The aforementioned concept is what we call Disproportionate Dwarfism' or excess of dwarf firms Missing middle is absence of manufacturing to absorb excess labour from primary sector
