The putty on the boom rather than the hook link section to allow more movement is a great tip.

thanks yes I think it was chod rigs that started with the putty on the hook section but I do think it's much better on the boom 👍👍

Great rig explanation Steve, showing how and why the rig mechanics suit your preferences . Brilliant to see drawings again that add an edge to anyone trying to follow the tying procedures. Tight Lines fella 🤞🎣🤞 Steve M

Dam Steve I thought I was the inventor of this rig😪but didn't start using it until about 1996! The reason being is the shot and putty I was using was causing me problems for long range casting!! So I thought this up as the swivel acting as the pop up weight and it obviously dosnt come off in cast!!! Like you I've caught countless carp on it and can honestly say I Can not remember dropping a fish!!!! It's the best pop rig and probably the best rig in the world✌thanks mate Danboy🎣
@stevebriggs4638
@stevebriggs4638 Жыл бұрын
Sorry Danboy 😆 When I tied the first one up I hadn't seen it before but I guess someone would have done it before me too - it normally works that way. It followed on from Mike Kavanagh who came up with the stiff rig concept but I just wanted a way of fishing it with a pop up. Funny enough the very first hinge rig that I cast out got snagged on a bar at Harefield lake and I lost it, but a couple of hours later the guy next door hooked what seemed to be a line trailer and wound in a fish that had picked up my lost rig! So I knew that it would be a winner!!!

@@stevebriggs4638 WOW Steve so we both owe alot to the stiff hinge rig 😯 what a story on harefield then,if someone else caught a carp on your trailer rig then we have to name the rig the Magic hinge stiff rig😂 I had exactly the same experience at dreamlakes years ago!!! My mate caught my trailer and landed a 59pounder on the last day of the session😯 I got snapped off on the Wednesday afternoon!!!! Isn't life wonderful!! Thanks Dan

That chod end of the rig kinda scares me. Only 2 turns and touch with a lighter. But if it works for you, Im going to start using it. Thanks for the video Steve, cheers from Croatia.
@stevebriggs4638
@stevebriggs4638 Жыл бұрын
Yes I know it sounds like it would be weak but with less turns you can actually pull the knot tighter, I only do it that way with the stiff mono but it works really well - lots of other guys in the UK do it the same way and its really safe.

Having confidence in a rig is almost has important has its effectiveness. Its a great rig for sure but iv found people tend to use them too short nowadays & I think this takes away the intended mechanics of the rig. 2 inches minimum for me, if I want something lower to the deck then 100% a spinner type Ronnie rig is much better. But who could argue with briggsy, top man.
@stevebriggs4638

Thanks for the input John, what’s good about these things is that everyone has a different take on it and there’s no right or wrong but as you say that confidence thing is so important!! Always good to hear different opinions and thoughts 👍👍

@stevebriggs4638 in my head I feel the carp doesn't necessarily need to suck so much to get nailed on the stiff hinge if it's 2 inches & above, & with the curve in the material if the carp comes from the back of the hooklink I see the rig spinning round has the carp touches it & nailing them in the bottom lip, easy access for the big slower feeding carp, thus deemed has a big fish rig...... I may be totally wrong of course🤣

Hi Steve, ive seen it common practice to tie it your way for lead clips. Then use loops either end for helicopter setups? Do you do this? Or just tie it the same for both. Ive tried tying some loops but it means i have to put putty on the chod section itself and i dont like doing this, seems to make the section sit a bit backwards almost and i guess over time bait buyonacy becomes an issue.
@stevebriggs4638
@stevebriggs4638 10 ай бұрын
Hi, I tend to tie it the same for either set up. I have used loops on each end of the boom section in the past but it seemed to be overkill and didn't seen to make any difference to action received or fish caught. I would still put the putty on the knot of the loop on the boom rather than have it on the chod section.

Hi Steve, Thx for video 🔥👏 I have a question regarding big carps like 20kg or more. Is it any minimum lenght of stiff section to suck, turn and hooked well or in doesn’t matter in your opinion ? Regards Marek
@stevebriggs4638
@stevebriggs4638 Жыл бұрын
Hi Marek no I don't think the length of the stiff section makes much difference in reference to the size of carp, I've had fish almost 30kg on quite short hook links and small carp on longer ones too

Hi Steve, Would this rig work better on a heli or leadclip set up?? or does it not matter?
@stevebriggs4638

Ive used it on both and it doesn't really make any difference, although I did use it on a helicopter set up when fishing on softer bottoms or on light weed which I feels gives a better presentation.
