Question: Why would you tie the floss around the bait rather than using the baiting needle to pull the floss through it and then secure it? Wouldnt that be more secure?

By not piercing the pop-up you prevent water ingress that could effect the buoyancy of the pop-up.

Love your videos John, always have done … and even though I’ve been carp fishing for 15+ years I like a little freshen up in my mind as redoing some rigs ready for a big trip out to France (first of the year) getting excited now. I like the play on cutting off the big ring if it gives people confidence (which it’s all about) but I leave mine on there so it’s a chod rig as I’ve had great success with them over the years and also play around with the length of the mouthtrap as sometimes with these huge bellied/ round carp can get to the pop up without being almost vertical to reach it. I will then will have some rigs in different lengths and different booms as info is a bit sparse on the substrate, so some semi stiff braid and also the IQ that I krimp sometimes and this time I’ve bought some ESP tungsten beads to pull down over the knots of the putty as I’ve been having problems during the winter with putty falling off. (I do use your trick with the coiled up lead out of old leaders) told many people about you with that one and most of the time works awesome, especially in the warmer months. Cheers 🍻 from Bristol

This is a great single hookbait rig or when fished over a spread of boilies. The problem with a mesh bag is it can straiten out the curve you place in the short, stiff section of hooklink.

These videos are really helpful, well presented with clear instructions. I've been experimenting with my boom sections, and found that using a couple of small tungsten bead really works well. One tight up against the knot, with the wide end covering the knot and one in the middle pinning the middle of the boom down. Also started using perfection loops at both ends, gives a nicer loop and tidy knot.

Is there an advantage to tying the boilie in place then rather than passing the floss through it and burning the end off? Ive never thought of tying one on before now?
@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes the advantage is because you don't pierce the pop-up when tying it on, the pop-up won't take on water and perhaps become less buoyant over time.
@owenfutter40944 жыл бұрын
Is their a reason that you dont use a baiting needle to put the popups on

Hi John and other carpers, would it be ok just to add the putty over the knot instead of on the swivel. just thinking if I add putty where John has here. Means its a bit harder and a messier job just to tie on a new stiff section if the hook needs changing? Or is the putty directly below the hook and on the swivel part of why this rig works? thanks
@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV4 жыл бұрын
I'd keep to wrapping on the swivel, it helps hold the putty and really neatens things up - when you need to reuse the putty it generally still comes off in one clean piece.
