Thank you for showcasing my home city ❤ even though I’ve lived here my entire life there’s still a lot i havent seen…the rocks is absolutely fascinating and has some of the best views of the harbour. You can easily get lost in all the little alleys and passageways. Can’t wait to see Baranagaroo and Darling Harbour in a future video…Darling Square (right next to Darling harbour) is one of my favourite areas for food in sydney…its also right next to Chinatown as well (more food!) 😊

Sydney. I may be biased because it’s my hometown and I have lots of memories on those little lanes, streets and shops, but it is always the most beautiful city for me. Even after my trip to Europe with their quaint little towns, Sydney is still my number 1. There is nothing that can beat the feeling of surrealism when you walk on The Rocks during the sunset.

Thank you Renata for doing such a wonderful job of appreciating and thoughtfully revealing the best of what Sydney has to offer. I was born here and have lived my entire 70+ years, based in this beautiful city. For a decade in the 1970's, I had a job patrolling inner Sydney parks and plazas on a motorcycle. We monitored the condition of trees, lights, fountains, and public property in Sydney's reserves and public areas. It was an almost unbelievable, best ever job, with plenty of intrigue and going's-on during the heady 'under-belly' days of Darlinghurst and Kings Cross - a place and time now unimaginable to most. It's was such a pleasure to relive & revisit all the best places you and Gordon so wisely sought out to explore, reveal and enjoy. Sadly, I visited Sydney's CBD a few months back and was shocked that, what used to be the best kept secret on earth, is now everybody's favourite destination - at least threefold the pedestrians and beach-goers than that of the 70's. Nonetheless, best wishes to a lovely couple who would be welcome in my home any day. Cheers from Sydney AU.

Wow, thank you very much! We really appreciate your support. I think what you say about Sydney can be said about a lot of cities. Vancouver comes to mind, really built up. Your description of the 70s sound like a magical time. We really loved that Australian cities maintained there public spaces, they really make a city beautiful. We will return to your lovely country and cities to explore more. Thanks for watching.

@@RenataPereiraTV You really need 4-5 days in Tasmania, there are so many beautiful and unique places and huge range of freshly grown or sea fished foods to try! Within an hour of Hobart there are more historic towns and quirky little country villages, preserved convict history and different lifestyles! Hobart and Launceston have maintained all their historic charm, with many modern touches and a science, research, food, outdoors and art based culture! Also, the East and West coast environments are completely different! The nature highlights alone needs 3 days! 🤔

@@RenataPereiraTV About 10 days at least so you can relax. Port Arthur, Bruny Island, are day trips from Hobart. Freycinet National Park/ Wineglass Bay/ Coles Bay. Cradle Mountain. Interestingly you linked the dates between American independence and British occupation in 1780s. I am half Dutch and half British Australian and have done a lot of research on who discovered Australia. Her is what I have discovered through research so far; The first Dutch map of Terra Australias is from the early 1500s. The Dutch basically controlled the East Indies (Indonesia) until the forth Anglo Dutch war in the 1780s. So although the Dutch never actually claimed Australia, they may have given it to the British after that battle. It's very hard to find factual information and evidence on the history of Australia, however there are a few KZbin channels that use old Dutch, Portuguese, French and British maps which contradict what we were taught about Australian history in Australian schools. Of course the indigenous Australians were here for 60,000 years before all this happened. I personally believe the Dutch regularly visited and maybe even occupied with Australia prior to British arrival. The British then needed to establish a new colony so charged people for petty crimes, in my family's case it was a stolen handkerchief and a pig. They were then usually freed on liberty passes after 6 months. Yes there were hardened convicts. But in my personal opinion, they just needed people to start the new great southern colony.

I'm impressed that you realise that the US colonies of Virginia, Maryland and Georgia were prison colonies way before Australia. Also, I'll point out that the word "criminal" is harsh as most early arrivals were convicted of petty crimes such as stealing a loaf of bread to feed their starving children. Indeed, most of the early arrivals were little more than victims of an unfair and unjust society in England at the time. Somewhat more dangerous offenders did arrive for a few decades after this but were generally kept segregated from the rest of the early communities.

Actually, if the British Empire only wanted to dump criminals, there were any number of areas where that could have been done, much more cheaply and easily.. They were looking to expand into the Pacific, and having a port in Australia was to be a stepping stone. Since Britain also had an over-supply of convicts, shipping some there as an early workforce was seen as a convenient way of killing multiple birds with one stone. Interestingly, the commander of the First Fleet was one Arthur Phillip, a RN officer who had a previously fairly average career. But, unusually, he'd spent a lot of that career sailing with the Portuguese. Also, on the way to Australia, the Fleet stopped in at Rio de Janeiro, then a Portuguese possession, and many feel that Phillip's Portuguese connections were made use of here, perhaps charts or information that they needed?
