I love ancient Persia, and it's art, culture, food and music. I have a Persian restaurant in my home town. The food there is delicious, the Persian were sophisticated and civilised back in the day, if only we could get Cyrus II the great back in power, none of this beheading and stoning crap in Iran today. I'm glad the Persian people are waking up and starting to rise up against the regime of Iran today. Persia was a truly great empire, now sadly gone! Greeting from Europe!

Thank you, beautifully presented with wonderful examples of this extraordinary art. I was fortunate indeed, in my younger years to spend some time in Iran, from Shiraz in the south, through to the beautiful Isfahan to Tehran in the north, and exploring the remarkable history and art, with someone who knew far more than I, then, or indeed now :) A worthy addition to the Bodleian Library video presentations- thank you.

Those manuscripts are in the Arabic alphabet, back thousands of years ago they used their tradition numerals that Cyrus would have been able to reed. Then they had middle Persian, modern Persian and it's alphabet were not used until the rise of Islam in the Persian region. Old school Persian writing is very different, there was 2 of them before Islam, like I said, traditional Persian, Middle Persian and the Arabic numerals they use today. In Turkey after the Ottoman Empire was defeated they went from using Arabic numeral to the Latin one that they use today. I think that in Mongolia they are now converting to using their cultural numerals, they used Russian Cyrillic's in the past, now their going to use tradition Mongol writing, er I think at least!
