Still loving these podcasts, the audio level that I struggled with on the first one has absolutely been fixed so send a big thank you to the history guy team for that one it's absolutely perfect. Running over Bluetooth to my truck stereo in my 18 wheeler which is a little bit noisy driving down the highway I can hear everything perfectly now. Other than my audiobooks and a couple of Toronto Maple leaf podcasts, you guys are one of my go-to entertainment sources for the day. Thanks for everything you guys do

when I read the title of this episode, I thought it would feature The famous outlaw Charles Bole, AKA Black Bart. He had a very long and mostly successful career as a stagecoach robber. When they finally caught him, they found out that he was afraid of horses and always walked to and from his robberies.

Great podcast! I read about the early settlers in Canada, and at times families would settle in such remote locations. The isolation would cause a lack of social norms. A travelling priest wrote about the peculiar perspectives of these isolated families. Not that these people were bad, but they were far removed from the social and religious norms of the day.

Amazing how many comments there are from people who firstly fail to understand that these podcasts are in addition to the regular video content, and secondly, don't possess the patience or attention span to engage with anything that doesn't involve moving images. Their loss.

Using a mule shoe in lieu of a horse shoe sounds like the modern equivalent of using the donut for a spare tire. Hearing the story of Dick Fellows makes me wonder if it may have inspired the writers of My Cousin Vinny. Just a thought.

Laura Ingalls father went west and failed numerous times also. Though mostly from circumstances beyond his control. Such as locusts and his homestead being given back to the native americans. I love the pod casts it allows me to listen and practice guitar or clean. Thanx

I love that line history that deserves to be remembered and I use it liberally. You guys should see if you can do a video on Major Robert Rosie Rosenthal. One of his B-17 this was called Rosie's riveters. I believe that he flew 52 missions, was shot down over enemy territory three times and escaped and then after the war went on to work as a prosecutor at Nuremberg even interviewing Hermann Goering. I think that's history that deserves to be remembered.

Thank you! Much better than the first version you did on Soapy Smith, though there were still some major mistakes and fictional additions. In Soapy's case the truth is indeed stranger than the fiction. If you want to learn the fully sourced history of Soapy Smith, I suggest my book, Alias Soapy Smith: The Life and Death of a Scoundrel (2009), from KlondikeResearch I also have a blogspot site and a group on Facebook where I discuss the latest new findings. For instance, recently I found Soapy in Tombstone, Arizona in 1882 running his prize package soap sell racket on Allen and Fourth Streets.

Have you done a video on the WWII South Pacific "Cargo Cults"?
@mike305343 жыл бұрын
Please show the History Guy and his son interviewing him. Staring at a static page for most of the program detracts from the story being told and likely loses the attention of viewers like me. The delivery of communication and content in a single modality is commonly used almost every day; however, most prefer a face-to-face meeting or even a real-time video conference over using an 'old-fashioned telephone.' Body language, gesticulation, and eye movement subconsciously give us cues not possible in a single modality. In my quick thematic research comparing Vlogs where you are on camera throughout the episode vs. having a single static page, I quickly realized that maintaining my attention was significantly more difficult when watching a static page. Because I was born during the peak year of the Baby Boom, my TV started out black and white, but the video and audio together made the programming irresistible to a kid with tube-type TV and tall antenna mast that had to be turned along with the channel knob to watch a different channel. Perhaps I also have PTSD (Pre Television Squeal Disorder). I would wake up early on Saturdays, spin the antenna and the channel knob, but all of the two channels had the Native American with a large headdress and a squeal that would wake the dead. That case was a single modality for the most part and when the squeal was combined with the static page, I believe I received many multimedia traumas from those experiences and my thematic research did point to several of the contributing causes of my electronic PTSD as defined above.
@timgaretson2383 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Face-to-face is much better than Face-page.
@trishthehomesteader98733 жыл бұрын
Why are you watching a static screen?🤷 Some of us still remember stories on radio or our parents reading to us. Our imagination provided the pictures.
@mike305343 жыл бұрын
@@trishthehomesteader9873 I remember those things and days before we had a TV in the house. A set of World Book Encyclopedias was my Internet. Gaming was outside playing or competing with friends, target shooting, and our Grand Theft Auto was a truck wagon we made out of lawnmower wheels, some scrap wood, a handful of nails, and a rope to steer it. However, I have changed with the times, good or bad, to the extent that if a story could be made more compelling by watching a speaker on screen, I still prefer that over a static screen. Please excuse me, I have to run. My neighbor is playing with my Hula Hoop again while he thinks I'm not noticing while my friends and I play root the peg and jacks. I don't mind him using my Hula Hoop, except he gave himself a hernia and damaged his hip joint he just had replaced.

Blogs are fine, but video record the presentation. That is the draw of the History Guy. We enjoy the bow-tie. CBC Radio for example broadcasts its shows on audio, but many are also video taped. It's much more fun to watch and listen. KZbin is made for it.

The Podcasts are being produced in addition to, not instead of, our regular KZbin format. We started producing the podcasts based on requests from KZbin viewers. Podcasts are released every two weeks and then posted here on KZbin approximately a month after release. While the podcasts will largely include scripts that we have produced in video format with additional commentary, we will also be including some original scripts unique to the podcast. Rest assured, we plan to continue producing videos on KZbin on our regular Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule.

Not all emigrants from "the east" were drunken losers... My great great grandfather was the youngest son on a Kansas farmstead... He brought his wife and infant daughter west to San Diego back in 1888, during the Southern California land boom... Obtaining a farm that was relatively successful until the collapse of the Otay Dam back in 1916... Such is the life of average Americans...
