breyanna bbb that’s what i’m talking about, people like you are always “white people weren’t slaves” (even tho it’s not only white people wearing braids) when no one says anything about slavery. you weren’t a slave as well, but you’ll still go and wish the worst to non black people wearing braids just cause you’re salty and full of hate, while those people did literally nothing to you and they’re not responsible for other non black people who are actually appropriating black culture and being racist and they’re also not responsible for what white people did hundreds years ago

F that. Our hair is beautiful no if ands or buts about it. I wish we knew that instead of trying to hide it underneath wigs, etc. Even wearing a ponytail fro. It's like nooo, just let it be free out. People get sooo offended but they need to shut up and mind their own business and get down to the reason why they feel offended when we wear our hair out naturally kinky.

@@Moana_moo Rihanna, I'm more so talking about women who have 4C hair. Society makes you ashamed of this hair type because it's so kinky and we can barely wear it out the way that it is without someone having a negative (slave-created, traumatic) reaction to it to make you feel ashamed of it. I am saying to those sistas to not be ashamed and wear it kinky (nappy as they call it from the old days) without hiding it out of being embarrassed and ashamed by it. Most women are hiding it verses them just wanting a little diversity.

classicanimal this video was not racist, and gurl I was not speaking on what type of hair whites wear, what it looks like, and the texture. I am saying that yeah, (hair is hair) but a black woman with hair is more than just hair. What I was referring to was the names that some people call us black women because of the way we wear our hair, not matter how it looks. I was pointing out that even if a black women wears her hair in a protective style, it will always be “unprofessional”.

Sierra.is.a qt you know that Africans had braids way before slavery right? Cornrows didn’t start during that period. North africans had cornrows and box braids too and they don’t consider themselves black. My paternal grandpa is 75% Morrocan and 25% nigerian and trust me he told me that North africans don’t consider themselves black. African braids started before Christ era. North Africans had cornrows and black Africans had cornrows. They actually started in Ethiopia though. I read about cornrows and these are facts. Yes cornrows hold deep history for African americans due to slavery but they didn’t start during that period. They started long before. Also Ancient Greek and Romans had cornrows too as they were very inspired by Ancient Egypt

Wow!! Glad that I came across this video. Ever since I was a kid I have been immensely fascinated with braids because there was this beautiful African woman who lived in my area she was married to an Indian guy, every time I saw her I used to wish I had hair like her. Later when I grew up I realized that if I ever tried out this look I would get criticized and as a social media person, I never wanted to offend anyone. I would love to have a conversation with you guys on this subject. Please let me know if it's ok for me to try something out because I really appreciate how beautiful it is? or if it's still inappropriate for me to try it as in an Indian Guyanese?

@@njana8820 why yes you uncultured idiot, because braids were our ancestors only way of expressing themselves. Their hair was all they had and they were discriminated for it hence the need for wigs, and also just in case u didnt know "white people" are a genetic matuation, y'all are not supposed to exist. So please leave black culture alone and stop with the culture appropriation

I am bengali and I never understood why black woman got angry at other races for appropating their hair, I was always confused and thought it’s just hair like what’s the big deal. I am so glad I watched this video, wow I never knew this and they never teach us this in schools. I just cried watching this the fact that they have to eat food by placing it in hair. So inhumane what black people went through.

Honey, do you know what it means to have 4c hair. It takes me 2 days completely devoted to my wash day routing I'm not exaggerating. Then ones a month, if you're like me and has short hair and no wig, you have to sit for 7 hrs or more straight to weave of hair and of course pay.
