The fathers gave much more efficacy to the cross than the modern church. The modern church tends to be joyless for good reason

Why are you defining what repentance is from someone who did not write any of the books of the Bible? Who is this guy that defines what it means? Why is he the authority? Repentance means to change your mind and you turned it into some 5 part ceremony consisting of tearful prayer, what?? That's nonsense.

There's a lot to be said for tearful prayer in the canon of repentance, which we read during the compline services during the first week of Great Lent. You can find it here if you're interested: stmaximus.org/files/Documents/Canon-of-Repentance.pdf

honestly, i haven't read origen, but i think, based on my own experience, that he's misunderstood. i believe he meant not that those in the lake of fire will be saved, but that they will pay their time and then will be released and reinserted into creation. i definitely could be wrong but am willing to read him because i'm kind of an universalist too.

Origen let's his readers know when he's speculating. The great controversy of his lifetime is summed up in against Celsus. Had he been born 150 years earlier would've been dealing with the first controversy in the church-to keep the law or not? Had he been born 100 years later he would have wrote about the Arian controversy. The 5th council did not condemn universalism- but a type of universalism that includes fallen angels and pre-existing souls- two ideas Origen writes against and for, possibly proof of interpolation which he claims was happening in his own lifetime.

@@livingbranches777 from what i've heard, i don't agree with origen on the law.

Well then the gospel is not good news. We are yet in our sins
