In this episode we cover the history of COPS also known as C.O.P.S.
Inspired by Robocop? Maybe? It only lasted 1 season at the tail end of the 80's but it's action figures had a gimmick that would not be seen on the toy shelves of today.

@Ralph Demascus If only we all could've been so lucky to have lead a life such as yours, but that's only for a charmed few, I suppose? In the meantime, the rest of us are resigned to deal with things as they are or just figments of our limited imaginations.

@Ralph Demascus It's not about extremes as much as it is about acknowledging that racism in many forms exist and always have. I don't need to be hanged/lynched by a white mob, denied my God-given rights or shot down by cops while wielding nothing more than a cell phone in my hand to feel it's realness. Racism exists and it's not just a manufactured figment of some folk's imagination.

When everyone else was playing G.I. Joe and He-Man, I was playing COPS. One thing that sticks in my mind was how dark some of the toy bios were in contrast to the show. Big Boss' toy has six cop badges on his shirt that were apparently taken from cops he's 'eliminated'.

This toy line was way ahead of its time and doesn't get enough credit, so thanks for the great video. Not only was this line in the 6 inch scale but it was - for the time - super articulated. My greatest sorrow growing up were action figures who couldn't bend and move like the cartoons. While not my favorite line, I LOVED playing with these simply for the articulation fix they provided; plus the designs and costumes were unique and cool.

Much as I like hearing about COPS, I wish you had gone into more info about the various characters on both the COPS and Crooks teams. Especially considering a LOT of juicy backstories between the various characters made for some great stories in the series run. Like the fact that Nightshade, the female cat-burglar ended up having a sort-of romantic relationship with the COPS specialist Mace. Or the backstory between K-9 specialist Bowzer and his cybernetic companion dog, Blitz (specifically how Blitz became a cyborg). Even the "obligatory" anti-drug episode, which saw Berzerko nearly dying of an overdose of a illegal street drug, which prompted Big Boss having the Crooks & Cops working together to stop the street dealer who was selling the drug.

@michaelweech6432 2 жыл бұрын
@@alucard624 It was good in that it showed that the crooks aren’t that bad (and that there are different degrees of bad, and the idiom ‘better the devil you know’). After seeing that episode (namely ‘The Case of the Lowest Crime’), as well as two Transformers episodes (the movie, and one of the season 3 episodes, hence aired after the movie - ‘Ghost in the Machine’), and the G.I. Joe episode ‘The Greatest Evil’ (a two parter episode, and of the new DiC cartoon, hence aired after the 1987 G.I. Joe movie), I’d - if I could, hypothetically, meet the Autobots, G.I. Joe and the cops (yes, I’m aware they’re all fictional, but I said ‘hypothetically’) - tell them to no longer be enemies, and now merely be friends, with the Decepticons, Cobra and the crooks (as well as the Transylvania Pet Shop characters), after reminding the Autobots that Unicron’s worse than the Decepticons, G.I. Joe that the Headman’s worse than Cobra (and worse than the Transylvania Pet Shop characters) and the cops that Addictem’s worse than the crooks. This leads me to ask - what’s the point, in having a good side, and a bad side, when, sometimes, both sides will see eye to eye? Sorry for the length of my comment, but - really - with my awareness, in some cartoons, that even the villains know about safety (where not even they’ll go that far, and they know their limits), I feel that the characters, in these shows, should consider being friends with who they think are their enemies.

This is going to sound cheesy as all get out, but C.O.P.S. was one the original reasons I ended up in my current law enforcement career. The other being my aunt that was a sergeant in DC Metro. In the first issue of the C.O.P.S. comic, we learn that Big Boss blames Bulletproof for the imprisonment and death of his identical twin brother, so he has Rock Crusher blow up the 647th Precinct with Bulletproof inside. After Bulletproof gets injured and is operated on, he decides to form the C.O.P.S. team to take the fight to Big Boss and his Crooks. You see, Bulletproof and Big Boss respectively leading their armies just to get back at one another is one big chain of revenge. In the cartoon, they made it pretty clear: Bulletproof is the good guy, and Big Boss is the bad guy. But in the comic, things are a little murky, so you really can't blame either of them for wanting their revenge, and that's what makes the C.O.P.S. comic worlds apart from the cartoon.

They need to create Boomerang 2. They need to bring back C.O.P.S. Dinosaucers, and other underrated cartoons. I enjoy watching this since I was a kid.

Yeah, because of the lack of violence, fighting and action in it, especially for a police cartoon. It was made more toned down, kid friendly, which is no wonder G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero was a more better show.

I remember seeing this series when I was ten (born 2006) on a now-defunct streaming service called Shomi (it closed in 2017). I only started to rewatch the series now (in the way you just mentioned), and I forgot how cool the series actually was. I had no idea toys were made for it though, and it's a shame they aren't sold anymore. Anyway, I do think it's cool that you talked about this series.

All three shows are, interestingly, by Hasbro (implying that all three could be related) [hence, as I like associating Transylvania Pet Shop with G.I. Joe, I like to think that, had it had a toy line, it too would have been made by Hasbro, as well as I associate Transylvania Pet Shop with Transformers, given that Transformers and G.I. Joe seem related].

Same here, I would gladly purchased them just like I did with Scarlett, Cover Girl, Lady Jaye and Jinx from G.I. Joe. C.O.P.S. was a really fun toy line despite it only lasting one year. I loved watching the cartoon series as well, I just purchased the old Shout Factory DVD release which also has concept artwork for the characters and the backgrounds. Watching the show again really brings back a lot fun memories for me.

I think the argument has always been that "boys shouldn't/wouldn't play with female action figures", so most toylines avoided creating any, if only one!! This is why Wonder Woman was the only female amongst the Super Powers/Super Friends toys of the 80s and Storm the only X-Man during it's early 90s run for a time.
@chrismayer3919
@chrismayer3919 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the concept of female action figures (or figures with a figure) were a rather touchy topic back then... as it was GI JOE had only four; Scarlett, Lady Jaye, Cover Girl and the Baroness to the 50+ male figs.

@@chrismayer3919 Don't forget Zaranna of the Drednock's and Jinx, the female ninja on the G.I. Joe team. Glad that Hasbro has diversified G.I. Joe even more in terms of females characters for both Joe and Cobra since then.

What made BP vest so cool was he was the leader He was the Optimus prime of the group or the general hawk of the group. there were good guys and then there were the leaders of the good guys They were held on a special pedestal when we were kids But what was even more fascinating is as an adult looking back on it. every kid wanted to be BP vast and it didn't matter the skin color In fact thinking back on it even more. his skin color was never even brought up He was the leader He was the leader of the good guys he was the boss. But that aside This show also did something else for me as a kid It made me respect police officers I idolized them They were the people that were going to keep me safe They were the people that were going to go after the bad guys. I grew up with a respect for law enforcement and it was mostly because of this show. It taught me respect for them and I still have that respect.

I picked up this series on DVD when JAR media had the rights. Loved it as a kid, and the fact is I can tolerate watching it as an adult because the writing was actually good. Unlike other shows that make me cringe and wonder "How could I have liked this back then?" and then I remember, I was an ignorant child whose tastes were not as refined.
