I loved S7 Emily, she was a kind and caring engine, who was always looking out for the other engines. I also love the Stirling Single Engine, and Emily’s Scottish accent is a nice touch.

Emily really was a character that really seemed to fit well when the series turned away from Awdry. Looking at her basis and the years it was built, it wasn't far from Edward's "birth" which puts the two on a similar level. Also, as a kid and even today the design of her smokebox always looked like curly hair on models so the design felt natural for the class to be female.

I was really meh on Emily when she was introduced and passed her off on Mattel/HiT using her as 'the girl' and not fleshing her out (considering I saw less of Mavis from them whom I DID like) but over time she really did grow on me. She fit in perfectly with the team and I think that was because she was treated like all the other engines and not just a mandatory 'requirement'. It really shows the difference between her and characters like Nia and Rebecca who ARE only highlighted for their ethnicity (Nia) and being a 'new girl' (Rebecca) despite the series already having a great cast of female characters, Emily being front and center. I think that sort of sets apart a lot of the early girl characters away from what they think is 'appropriate' for the show now. She's a girl but she was still apart of the Steam Team and they never needed to call attention to it because of that. She was a hard working train and that's all that mattered and the same thing was shown for the other female characters which only makes it all the stranger that Mattel stated there was a problem. Hell, Nia can't even take the title of being the first non-British, ahem, POC train (god) so what the hell makes her so special at all? Oh, and Emily's accent tops it. I always confused it for Irish because she didn't have the same tone as the twins to me so yeah.

The curves on Emily that look like hair, that is actually what the class looks like! So clever choice in regards to getting an engine class to show her femininity

Emily's always been one one of my favorite characters in the series, which is strange considering she was effectively a character pulled out of thin air. It's a shame she lacks a back story; lsje sadly marks the first major character (bar Sally) who just shows up one day, with no explanation as to why they are there or where they came from. The concept is quite backwards compared to the other RWS characters, and I feel that's one of the biggest reasons as to why so many people generally don't like her. (That and the violent personality changes the producer's keep giving her...)

At least she has a character to her and we got know what she is like and over time she was more naturally promoted to being the main character after calling call engines as opposed to nia and rebecca who were forced onto views and mattel told us to accept without question. I do question why it took until season 24 to give emily the number 12 after so many years of being on the series.

Hell I considered emily to be engine 12 because of her presents as a main character.

It just occurred to me... Why did they introduce Rebecca, when Molly fills the same gaps and then some? Molly's a kind yellow female tender engine, who has notable strength, a notably different personality (shy), has a real life basis that wouldn't look farfetched in a RWS story, etc. The only real difference is that Molly isn't accident-prone like Rebecca, and Molly lacks that "high energy" spirit (which isn't a bad thing).

The only issue I always had with Emily since when she was introduced was why she was the only character who isn’t painted in NWR colored livery, she always looked like she didn’t belong in the series to me. Also it’s baffles me how she didn’t receive a NWR numbering only until the latest season!
