Big Brother is an intense, three month long battle that a handful of people have had the privilege of playing. But, it's not meant for everyone. Whether it be by choice or not, there have been 9 players who have left the game in a non-traditional manner, and today we are gonna talk about it. This is the history of expulsions and quits on Big Brother.

I think it should have been added that Megan left because of PTSD in BB19. It was from being in the military. And considering how she was bashed by Josh, Cody, Alex AND Jessica, it makes sense why she was triggered. Also, Jessica DID say a racially motivated comment referring to Alex. She may have not said “Panda”, what Megan misheard, but she said “Pao Pao”, in reference to another Asian houseguest who was on BB16. So Megan wasn’t entirely wrong.

From the little I've seen of Jared's reaction he handled himself very well and understood that it while not an excuse ignorance doesn't equate to malice. I think his response would have been much different if he thought it came from a malicious place. I am glad that big brother stepped in and made an example of him I don't care what his family make up is or what his friends circle looks like it's something as a white dude he had no business saying. I grew up in a predominantly black neighborhood and the word was used casually by everyone but I sure as hell as the white guy in the group still understood that wasn't my word to use. People just gotta slow down and think about how our words can affect others regardless of intent.

@@andrews2528 interesting I grew up very well off black in a predominantly white area of San Diego. I can personally attest to white kids feeling comfortable saying these types of things with impunity. And when they did ever get partially asked about “why” they retort the same rhetoric that they meant it more as friendly banter. Or they would full on lead with. I am not racist because X reason. So I agree with you intent matters but I still think Jared in those fractions of a second as the incident occurred had to pause and change the way he wanted to retort to accommodate for the perception he would give off rather than the contents of what he was actually presenting. As a minority, I believe a lot of us do this on a regular to “ save face” or just to not be perceived as “insert stereotype”. Sorry if this came off attacking your comment, just been thinking about life in general these days and we all have opinions you know?

Jared was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. Yeah by laughing it off and not calling Luke on it he became his alabi and gave Luke the "they got more upset then you did" explenation and fans called him out for not saying anything. But if he had spoken up or lectured Luke almost surely just as many people would have been all over him for being "angry" or "sensitive" or whatever else they wanted to call it. And that isn't even counting the game aspect makes it potentially bad for his game if he were to go off.

The craziest part about her departure was that after she left she still kept talking shit about Taylor and accused her of bullying her in the house, which everyone knew was bs due to the feeds. It got so bad that even past houseguests called her out on her lies and false accusations, which led her to block and hide all comments on the video before eventually deleting it. Even after the season ended she claimed her mistakes were due to a new diagnosis of BPD for her, but even then she still didn’t properly own what she did wrong or realize just how awful she was to Taylor! Everyone knew this and everyone saw Paloma’s mistreatment of Taylor was never based on anything Taylor actually did to warrant such mistreatment! As for production, while they do often try to feed the audience false narratives, the fact of the matter is they had little role in what happened here. While they never tried to push a narrative that Taylor deserved her mistreatment, they also did not acknowledge her mistreatment until the leftovers alliance began to put the pieces together themselves. And even then, they still tried to cover up Kyle’s racism and Monte’s misogyny toward Taylor. The fact that viewers came to these realizations without production doing anything speaks volumes! What I find really gross on production’s part is how Chima was more villainized in the edit for getting pissed at production than Luke was for saying a racist slur. Seriously, I was waiting for a producer’s voice in the DR to tell Luke not to bother sitting down. Edit to add: What’s worse is the coup de tat was used to save homophobe Jeff. I could see them making her a penalty nominee, or something, but expulsion seemed a bit much. Jackson didn’t get any form of punishment for continually breaking have not rules.

I 100 agree they did her dirty and don't blame her for acting like she did, and for the most part most fans looking back on it out of the moment have agreed they did her dirty. But as far as if they "did the right thing" to evict her or she should have gotten a penalty nominations instead. She was refusing to put on her mic pack after they told her to several times, then threw it in the pool, then they asked to come in and change it out and she still refused to change it and then refused over and over to go to the DR, I don't think they shwoed it but she was also covering up the cameras. How were they supposed to work with her if she was like that she was actively sabotaging them being able to record and cover the game and disrupting the game from continuing? I mean if she decided next on the live show she refused to go in and vote or go out to play the HOH what were they supposed to do? It was clear she was done and was going out in a blaze of glory. So she really gave them no choice, it's not like the second she refused to put on her mic they threw her out. Chima basically quit a penalty nom would not have mattered to her or likely even slowed her down from trying to disrupt the game out of spite. As for the edit with Luke, he did arguably get off real light compared to some others edits for doing things. But BB was clearly trying to not come off looking like they were exploiting the sutuatioin. THe adds and announcer never hinted anything like that was coming and they got it out as quickly as they could. They wanted to move on so no one could say they tried to exploit the situation to virtue signal they "have the hard conversations"./

Agree about Luke's edit, they wanted to get it out of the way with as little hoopla as they could, Julie didn't even mention it in the opening of the episode. I think they also didn't want to be accused of giving him attention. like with Chima, the edit gave her tons of attention and made her one of the most memorable players in the series, it was a reward from a certain point of view. I think they didn't want to be accused of doing anything to make Luke more famous.

I think she was done with the game 100% and wanted to see what they would do if she didn’t listen. Not that I blame her, I just think she was done either way. I think they showed all the times they talked to her and she ignored them because they realized people were side eyeing production. They wanted to be like “see how many chances we gave her to stay in if she just put a mic on” I’ve always thought that power they gave Jeff was ridiculous. It’s one thing if they do a big twist and it’s been planned weeks in advance and someone gets screwed by it. That sucks enough. You know, I saw Luke's removal as a general rule of policy, but after you explained the ugly history of houseguest using racial slurs in the past and not being removed, I have a better understanding of his expulsion. It also made me feel gross that it took producers THIS long to finally put their foot down to not accept that kind of behavior (If you want context, Big Brother UK expelled a houseguest for using the N word way back in 2007 as a response to the controversy of the celebrity season prior)

They also aired the producers on that show talking through the situation with the guilty houseguest in a chance to get her to explain herself. The whole time she seemed dismissive of the whole thing (her being tired or her being 19 years old are NOT excuses). From this, they told her she was ejected (to her visible shock) and had her awkwardly walk out a side door. If a British TV show of all things could handle disciplining those who use hate speech properly in 2007, then there was no excuse for the US version not treating it seriously all throughout the 2010s.

15:36 I could not STAND Jessica during BB19 and even though Megan got the term wrong, she wasn’t wrong about Jessica’s comment being racist (or, at the very least, ABOUT Alex’s race) and she had good intentions. Jessica calling Alex “Pao Pao,” and with a nasty/derogatory and negative tone was COMPLETELY uncalled for and she was being intentionally mean. For those who don’t know, Pao Pao was an Asian house guest from a previous season, 16 if I’m remembering correctly. I felt horrible for Megan, especially being in a house with mean girls like Jessica and Alex. There’s no escape, no one safe to talk to, no television to go off and watch to keep yourself away from the negativity and no one seemed to have her back at all. I would have been a ball of nerves and left, too. The only thing that “saved” Jessica with Alex is that she could honestly say, “No, I never called you Panda.” And Jessica was probably relieved that Megan had gotten that wrong. Also, Alex saying she totally believed Jessica because “Who would lie about something like that?” was dumb. Seriously, Alex? I know who: anyone who got caught saying it!! I guess if a person is dangerous or has mental issues that make the house a bad environment for them, it usually manifests early. BBUS has only had one person leave during the jury phase, Chima. For those saying the producers were in the wrong for not canceling the eviction, look at all the cases in this video: Big Brother US has NEVER cancelled a week when someone not on the block quit (Paloma was a Backstage Boss nominee). Production does take the integrity of this game at least somewhat seriously and isn't gonna randomly cancel an entire week of gameplay when someone not on the block leaves.

That's true, it just feels a little... off that you would expel a house guest for saying a slur against black people, then turn around and evict one of your black contestants. Especially when you're saying this'll be the longest season ever, and there's most certainly still going to be at least one double elimination.

@@amcuevas so they should have canceled the eviction vote because both nominees were black? that would be the epitome of well-meaning racism. that kind of attitude is actually antithetical to black people playing the game "oh, they shouldn't allow black people to be eliminated from the game"

On the topic of expulsions, Jared from BB25 should have been expelled. Unfair CBS can expel one houseguest for using a specific term, but not another just cuz his mom is a survivor legend. Pathetic.

Chima’s reaction reminded me of Michelle and Ollie’s reactions in the previous season (10) after Replacement Nominee Roulette. Ollie wrecked the backyard and Michelle blocked some of the cameras with pillows, even going so far as to accuse the show of being a set-up and Dan being a plant. Had it gotten any worse, I’m sure they could have faced expulsion (Ollie certainly did).

Love the point you made about regular vocabulary, it was pretty perfectly put, in the sense that it makes it super easy to understand for the people that don’t understand. Myself, for example, I don’t listen to a lot of rap music but I love me some Nicki but I learn her raps without saying that word, I replace it with mister as I’m learning it so it isn’t etched into my brain for me to do it drunk. It’s that easy. People who make it hard, usually have a reason why they want to. 🤷‍♀️🙌🏻 Just don’t be the type of person who tries to hurt people and you won’t be a 🍆

Polamo's hits me the hardest, because it wasn't about the game, it wasn't a medical thing. She broke down mentally being under constant surveillance. It's clear she had some mental health issue going on, I won't speculate what it was, but I'll speak personally as someone diagnosed with schizophrenia who constantly has the feeling as if I am being constantly surveyed. It's a scary feeling, and I hope she is doing okay today.

I’m divided about Chima. On one hand, that CDT twist is complete bs. A power like this should be earned, not handed by viewers. Not to mention the fact that Shredder was a hypocritical manchild on both his seasons. On the other hand, Chima was like that FROM WEEK 1, before the “special power” was even announced, and she proved to be pretty toxic later on, especially when she called Russell a terrorist. I don’t care how annoying someone is, calling ANYONE a terrorist is a big no-no.

10:05 @Ethanimale, you hit it right on the mark with this comment! That word should have never been a part of Luke’s vocabulary in the first place. My first reaction when I heard the news of his expulsion was, “Why was that word even in his vocabulary in the first place?” I’m from the same state as him (different part of the state, though), and you wouldn’t believe how many white people in this part of the country casually throw that word around, even in a joking context. (I myself have never used that word and never will.) I’m glad to see that BBUSA has finally taken a stand on use of racial slurs in the house, but why did it take so long and leave behind so many needlessly bullied people? That’s what makes me more frustrated than anything else.
