My favorite story from this series was from the mid 2010s. A few of my students complained that some of the games that existed on the old Nintendo were too basic and easy. So...I told them to beat the first stage of Ghosts 'n Goblins and tell me when they finish. The amount of aggravation and pain...I can remember that so clearly to this day.

That's a nice story. Todays "kids" often underestimate the old and rather simple games. In the most cases Videogames got a lot easier with the time and the graphics got better but as a kid of the 80's I prefer the classics - games like Demon's Crest for example. The 16bit aera was the best and most interesting time, that never happens again. I'm glad that I whitnessed it!

I was 8 when Super Ghouls N Ghosts came out. I remember that everyone that I knew who had a SNES also had a copy of it. Literally everyone had it. I always played it at my cousins house and friends houses thinking it was impossible to beat. But, I just kept on and on and on and fell more and more in love with the series. Now I am almost 40 and it has become one of my all time favorite game franchises along with Castlevania and Final Fantasy and I can finally beat it! I love Super Ghouls N Ghosts so much that I even got a complete in box copy for the Super Famicom based solely on the wonderful cover artwork and the instruction manual being filled with beautiful illustrations. You are so very correct in saying how important the series is as a whole to the world of gaming. This video was extremely well done! It was wonderful sir. Fun fact...the UK version of ghosts and goblins first end shows a picture of the weapon to find, a cross. The problem is that the cross wasn't in the game, it was the shield. Back in the day, I literally spent all day throwing in credits to get the cross, unaware that the shield I kept finding was the weapon I needed. Had to give up when the arcade closed. Decades later, I learned the truth and finally finished it on my pandoras box. Always have fond memories of that frustrating day. Fun fact 2. Sony were cheapskates. I used to work at GAME and as part of the job, Nintendo would do competitions for stores. The ten stores that got the most preorders on certain new releases, won a copy of the retail game for each member of the staff. I got a few games like Mario sunshine and eternal darkness that way. Sony got in on the act and offered the same with Maximo. I worked my butt off to get that preorder win. We did win. The games arrived and it was a promo version, the same as the multiple samples that used to get sent to the stores anyway. I never bothered pushing the sony preorders as much. Ninteno did what Sony wouldn't. Fun days. I still have it! WELL DONE ON AN EXCELLENT VIDEO!
@RewindArcade2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, really happy you enjoyed the video!! I had no idea about the cross/shield issue in the UK version, that's really crazy. I wish I had included it in the video! Glad you finally saw it through to the end though, haha. While that really sucks about what happened with Sony and GAME, it's pretty awesome that you ended up with a promo version that is probably way rarer and worth a lot more these days. Sony was certainly a much different company back then. I worked for PlayStation for a little under a decade (under the U.S. branch) during the PS3 and PS4 eras and was told that they became very different after the PS3's launch. Probably after getting their clock cleaned by the Wii and 360, haha. These are awesome stories and info, thanks so much for sharing! And thanks for watching!

Ditto and my favorite of the 3 spinoff games. Always wondered why there wasn't a sequel which would've been so easy to do since Phalanx sealed himself in the crest of heaven or, if you will, time because of it being of Japanese origin "heaven" could translate to time. Say a successor to Firebrand or humans had found the crest and unknowingly started something with Phalanx on the future, treacherous demon he was from the beginning he could prey upon them for help in being released. It could've went from there.....I'm only 2/3 of the way through the video at this point where Maximo was axed sadly and since DC I lost interest really.

Again, you're giving one of my absolute favorite series the Royal Treatment. Congratulations for the amazing piece of work. It really made my day :) I still have to give the Gargoyles spinoff its deserved time and someday I will. I first saw the Ghosts'n Goblins arcade during a weekend schooltrip to the snow, the bar in the little place we were staying in had it, and I immediately loved its theme and graphics, so a couple of years later, as I got my NES, one of the first games I got was the port of the first game... and I told you before while you were completing it a few months ago... nightmare, addicting nightmare though :) Ghouls'n Ghosts arcade machine also came into my life placing itself in a bar next to my school, and we'd spend hours watching people play it on Friday afternoons :) When we got the Megadrive port, I got to play it and it totally felt like the arcade... until you started a discussion with your gamer friends on how the backgrounds in the arcade were more rich and that faraway tree moves in the arcade but doesn't in the Megadrive version... we were like that, so when I saw the PCEngine port in magazines I almost ate the pages in wanting that port lol I got Super Ghouls'n Ghosts for the SNES on Xmas 92 and I absolutely loved it to bits, and it was the first time I completed a GG game legit :) Don't want to make it too long, sorry, but it's such an iconic series, I was ecstatic to read that, a few months after I was wishing for a new entry in the series, since it had been too long since the PSP GG, GG Resurrection was announced. Ayyyy thanks Wes, appreciate you watching man!! While I doubt we'll ever get a third Maximo, an HD remaster collection would be so damn awesome (with fixed camera controls like you mentioned). Thanks so much, really happy you enjoyed it! While I played GnG on NES a lot as a kid, Gargoyle’s Quest really blew my mind since it A. let you play as the “bad guy” and B. was an amazing combination of a platformer and an RPG.
