Children that doesn't even know their full extended family is here arguing about the identity of an old man whose identity was passed to him from his ancestors. He even went as far to spell the name, that's to show you his in-depth knowledge. As a Benin man we learn from our elders! Our trace and origin is passed to us from fathers to sons! Unlike some quarters where it is their sons that wants to teach their fathers! Na sons wan dey teach papa where they come from. A people too intellectually lazy to dig! Do research and come up with logical facts to counter claims! I'm happy this interview is with an elderly man. May God and our ancestors continue to bless you Voice Of Benin tv

One of the communities he mentioned starts with ‘umu’ which is not Bini naming system. People fixated with Igbanke as a name. It is a recent construct and does speak much of the origin of the people. He should tell us which his name is Chukwu… It is the end of the story.

After listening to this lovely documentary about the people of Igbanke, here are my candid findings as a sociologist: 1) Igbanke is composed of 6 different communities. 2) the 6 different communities that make up Igbanke all have different historical background and do not have a unified dialect. the man that was interviewed used Esan & Benin Language to illustrate the differences in dialect among the 6 different communities of Igbanke. 3) the Igbontor people of Igbanke came from Benin with Ntor, a native bn their progenitor. For confirmation, watch this section of the clip in time 13:14 mins to 13:20 mins. 4) the Idumodin people of Igbanke are from Igun in Benin city. He used Odin (deaf) to cite how their history came about. 5) Moving forward, according to the man, the Ota people came from agbor in Delta (watch 37:03 mins to 37:20 mins to confirm it). This makes sense to me cos I have heard of the Ika's in Delta saying that their kits & kins are also in Igbanke, Edo State. The man even stated that a notable personality of Ota community of Igbanke REFUSED that their people (Ota people of Igbanke) are Bini's. Before you argue with me, I urge you all to watch this section of the clip in time 13:33 mins to 14:30 mins. Also watch 38:49 mins to 39:26 mins to confirm. 6) the Ake people of Igbanke speak Bendel Igbo and they the Igbanke's that borders with Ika in Delta State. Watch 29:27 mins to 29:42 mins to confirm it. 7) the remaining 2 communities of Igbanke originated from Esan and they speak a dialect of Igbanke that resembles the Esan language. Watch 29:42 mins to 30:14 mins to confirm it. also watch 39:25 mins to 39:50 mins to confirm. 8) This means that only 2 out of the 6 communities of Igbanke communities originated from Benin, which made the man's assertion that the whole of Igbanke are Benin to be invalid and not entirely true. ❌ 9) From the man's comment, I can sense that the man is from Igbontor community of Igbanke (one of the 2 communities of Igbanke that originated from Benin) and he presently resides in Benin City. Watch 32:01 mins to 32:10 mins to confirm it. also watch 43:25 mins to 43:30 to confirm ✅ 10) Here is a catch for the vlogger. You are doing a marvelous work, but I think the right thing to do is to also interview representatives from the other 5 communities that make up Igbanke, not just from a man that hails from Igbontor alone, which I can understand that the Igbontor people of Igbanke have Benin origin. Otherwise, we would be making type 1 error in our research findings.❌ 11) the man said that the Igbanke people speak both Igbanke & Benin language. I think that is a fallacy. May be, himself speak both the Igbanke & Benin languages fluently, that one is quite understandable, judging from the fact that he is residing in Benin city. But saying that a typical Igbanke man that has never stepped out of Igbanke or communicated with anyone that speaks Benin, can easily communicate in Benin language flawlessly, is a fallacy in itself. ❌ CONCLUSION In my conclusion, the man's statement that all the people of Igbanke are all Benin is not entirely true and should be taken with a pint of salt. Until the entire 6 clans of Igbanke are interviewed, we can not just conclude. thank you all and stop the unnecessary arguments.

The man gave his name as chukwuemeka and others. Is chukwuemeka a Bini name. Two thing are going on here. The man is an off spring of Beni people who invaded and dominated that area so his allegiance tilts towards his Bini ancestors, it could be also that the man has no clue what he is talking about as old age doesn't always mean wisdom. The interviewer narrowed his interview to only this man, where he is likely to achieve the expected outcome and answers. So how authentic is that? To get a correct sample of repondants Talk to wide aray of igbanke people that will give you a wider spread, not just one man who may have an agenda.

I will like to ask people this question, and i need someone to respond to this question. The time edo and delta with the yoruba where together as one western regions with the yoruba, (1) do we call, or do we have western igbo at that time? (2) after edo and delta now separated from the yoruba, we now name our region, Midwestern Region, (3) do we have the name call Midwestern igbo at that time? What i now remember, is that, it was the time of bendel state, they start calling bendel igbo, what make the delta people to add that igbo name to call them delta igbo? Because the igbo are from the South East region, they came to Midwestern Region for a business, on the name of one Nigeria. They now come in numbers to marginalised the asaba, iseluku Agbor and anioma, they are now saying today now that this people are igbo. Because they allowed them to their home. On the name of one Nigeria. Just the same things the hausa accept the fulani to their home. Now the fulani are claiming the land of hausa land today. It is not the same things the igbo are doing now to the anioma people, so to Asaba people, so to Agbor people and iseluku people. Telling them that they are igbo. If you see any different about what I said now, please respond to me. To me There is no difference between fulani and the igbo. Trying to Grab people land and property to be their own. Is that a good one?

@sundayisibor379718 сағат бұрын
@petermgbeke9094 Ikas and Bini's are not cousins, rather the kingship of Bini and Agbor are two brothers who are dragging who's the head , when they crown one in Bini the Other came down to Agbor and established his kingdom that's part of the reasons Agbor and Bini don't get along too much those days. This is part of the reasons when Igbanke and Agbor have misunderstanding that lead the people of igbontor to seek Oba assistant ( protection), so if anyone is talking about Igbanke relating to Bini without mentioning why Igbanke people left Agbor palace then the person is lying.

This Elder is an abomination to the larger Ika people. What is he talking about? Igbanke see themselves as Ika, not Benin. If we are Benin, then why don't we have the same culture, tradition, spirituality, and language with Benin people? Did Igbo people come to Ika land and conquer it? Benin Kingdom was the greatest kingdom in Nigeria, and they went about conquering territories without forcing their language and tradition on the people of the places they conquered. Examples are Oba of Lagos and the Obi of Agbor in Ika land.

Igbanke belongs to the Ika speaking group with a significant number in the Ika South and North East LGAs of Delta State. Igbanke was carved into Edo State during the creation of the state on August 27, 1991 hence separating them from the larger Ika group in Delta State. U dont know anything. The influence of Benin in Southern Nigeria is too overwhelming. all the way to Onitsha, is one of the reasons you may not get Biafra.
@martinsibeanusi4317Күн бұрын
@CHRISTIANOSUYI Yes, I understand the Benin Kingdom influence in Southern Nigeria. I do not deny the fact that the Kingdom is one of the greatest kingdoms in West Africa. My main point is not about Biafra either, I do not support the current agitation for Biafra. The main contest is the Igbanke people and its origin. Igbanke was under the Benin Kingdom, but the people are Ika people, period. The Benins ruled Lagos through their prince and formed the Oba system. They did not change the Yoruba language of the Awori people they met at Eko. So how come Igbanke is speaking Ika dialect of Igbo, and it is in Edo state? Is that not proof of identity?
@sundayisibor3797Күн бұрын
Oga shut up there are you from Igbanke? How there you go an interview someone in Bini who is not an Igbanke to be talking nonsense ? Where did you hear that we share common boundaries with Bini ? Igbanke is fully Agbor, if fact we where once ruled by Obi of Agbor before Agbor/Igbanke war, if you don't know people's history better keep quiet and don't take Bini person assertion to conclude. Where have you see Bini people meeting with Igbanke there? Where have you see Bini musician playing in Igbanke land? Or Igbanke musician playing in Bini? Does Bini listen to our music? Oba they speak Igbanke? Or does a common Igbanke man speak Bini? If I leave my entire lives in Yorubaland and speak Yoruba does that make me Yoruba man? Think where the errors are and stop thinking of people who are not thinking of you. We don't have any beef with Bini but we're not Bini. False history. Igbanke are Igbos. They're part of Anioma Igbos who are their neighbors, they were simply carved into Edo state for political reasons. Their language is Igbo, their culture and 5 market days are Igbo, the lying old man even bears Igbo names and Igbanke is an old Igbo word. They live at the western boundary of Igbo land. In the olden days, the Benin empire conquered so many neighboring tribes including the whole of Anioma up to river Niger. The Igbos did not have a central government but eventually they fought and freed themselves but they had adopted several Benin traditions including kingship. Because Biafra lost the war, Igbos that live at the border of Igbo land started to deny being Igbo just as Peter denied Jesus in time of trouble. There is no tribe that has two languages. Igbanke language is Igbo but a few of them understand Benin because they're under Benin rule. All these lying elders just want to avoid marginalization in Nigeria and Edo state but if you study their culture they're core Igbos.
