I actually liked the tunnel. I wish they would bring bsck the tunnel. Thanks for having pictures of the Pippen and early Thunderboldt pictures of the tunnel. I remember that double dip. Where as the second dip of the Jack Rabbet's double dip would really eject you from your seat. The Pippen's double dip was different, the second dip was deeper than the Jack Rabbit's. you had a different air time sensation. It was like you were floating or falling down the hill. The beginning of the Pippen went very slowly. It was like the car was getting eaten up by the valley. At night those lights gave an eerie sensation when you were watching the ride.

@ted perkoski Awesome, thanks for telling me what it was like, it’s really cool hearing from someone who actually rode it. It actually sounds pretty cool.

Imagine how people reacted to that 90 foot ravine drop in 1924. Also, next time I go to kennywood I’m gonna try the “Gino method” of riding thunderbolt.

The Kennywood coaster lineup was stacked back than. Jackrabbit holds up great today, I only imagine what they thought the Pippin was like back than. And Geno had the biggest balls doing that, especially since that was just a part of his morning routine.

Thanks so much for this video. I have always wondered what the Pippin was like and the digital recreation was great! I think I would trade the double helix for the double down dip. Oh well I still love the Thunderbolt as it is!

Very well done. You're right, finding images of the Pippin is virtually impossible, but it did most certainly have more than a thing or two in common with Jack Rabbit. Speaking of, the year they took the tunnel off of the Thunderbolt, they added a tunnel back onto the Jack Rabbit. Over the past decade, I want to say that the Thunderbolt has been overshadowed by a renewed interest in Jack Rabbit. Much of that clout is definitely deserved, since that double dip is no joke. They're both amazing coasters though. All three of the classic woodys are.

Really interesting. It shows how the family that owned Kennywood even back in the 1960s were trying to be the leaders in roller coasters. Of course as the years went on they lost that as major park chains like Six Flags, the Hershey Company, Universal, and Walt Disney came up and surpassed Kennywood in size and ability which eventually forced the family to sell it to a conglomerate. The theme-park operator Parques Reunidos purchased Kennywood, Idlewild and Sandcastle Water Park for an estimated $200 million in 2007 and now owns 61 parks in 14 countries, giving Kennywood more to compete with the big players going forward.

Great video! I'm curious about the timing of the Top Ten list. You mentioned 1974 but Rebel Yell/Racer 75 wouldn't have been open yet, unless they got a sneak preview somehow.

Lol the painting of Kenny kangaroo riding the thunderbolt though, he looks to be slamming in those turns after the second lift. Does that mean that Kenny kangaroo can just break the rules like that? 💀
