UG Madness will always have a special place in my heart as it enabled me to get into Legacy on a budget. It can get by with a modest land base and has relatively cheap cards outside of the mandatory Force of Wills. Add in some Null Rods and you suddenly have a fighting chance against Vintage decks.

Man, the nostalgia is STRONG with this one. UG Madness was my competitive deck of choice in Standard and Extended until it rotated out of each (which roughly coincided with me getting out of tournament Magic entirely), and by far my best memories of the game are with this deck. Still have it together, for that matter. I'm glad to see a descendant still shows up in the non-rotating formats, though not at anything resembling a price I could make happen. Stupid reserved list cards.

In pauper, madness is still viable in BR colors. MH2 helped alot and faithful looting still not banned here 🙂

Premodern has several UG madness decks (with and without Survival of the Fittest). Pauper has 2 madness decks, UG and RB.

Madness is my favorite keyword ability in the game. In my cube, madness decks are a major player in all combinations of temur colors. But it's more compareable to the old block/standard power level than legacy/vintage.

Missed many old vintage decks. Ug madness, 4 LED bazaar madness, worse than fish, oshawa stompy. The decklists are still around in the archives on themanadrain. Many paper vintage tournaments feature proxies so it can be hard to find decklists...

The reason Caleb Durward’s deck only had one Top 8 is because Survival of the Fittest got banned shortly thereafter, BECAUSE of the Rootwalla-Vengevine combo.

I never understood how Fiery Temper wasn't a staple in many madness decks in modern when Faithless Looting was legal. It's basically four more lightning bolts at that point.

The mechanic responsible for why Lion's Eye Diamond stopped being a $5 card. Before madness, it was not even worth $5, even then only because it was a rare and the world had much less internet shopping back then so the supply felt much more limited.
