Francisco, many thanks for this video. We spent 6 days in Madrid and returned yesterday. It’s now by far our favourite European capital. Still authentic and very different to the places we’ve been so far. Lovable. Adorable. Our son aged 8 was most happy here compared to anywhere else. We felt safe and welcome. Surely some places are crazy touristic. We are Londoners, we know what tourism is like. But we visited the Madrid science museum and the zoo, Prado and a few other art places and got mesmerised. We barely scratched the surface of what Madrid has to offer culturally, humanly and socially: it’s full of wonder. I’m well tempted to return in autumn to just melt along the old streets, walking routes, food places and vintage shops. We will check your channel for more videos and please, have them coming! We love your presentation style and sense of humour.

Really enjoyed the video Francisco. I'm going to be going to Madrid for my 1st time in November and I always like learning about the history places before I visit. You did a really great job of going through all the different time periods and changes throughout the centuries.

thank you for the unique info! it was deep, entertaining and thorough, i enjoyed watching. although sometimes it was hard to understand what you're saying because of the loud music (11-17 min). anyway thanks!

Yup, and the park where we can see a portion of the original Muslim wall of Madrid is now called “parque Muhammad I”.

I am impressed of the good planning as an urban setting being such an old city. was it rebuilt during history???

The city is always growing, but it hasn’t been rebuilt on a large scale. The nineteenth century straight roads are basically the same. The outlook of the buildings at the city centre has been restored for touristic purposes. Old residents remember the streets and the buildings, but it all looks pretty (I would say “Disneyfied”) and local shops have often been replaced by gift shops and restaurants.
