Japanese Marvel fans really like Shuma-Gorath. Like...REALLY like him. No, I'm not being cute or snarky (well, maybe a little bit) this guy has a weirdly large fanbase in Japan to the point that despite being a B lister by the most generation definition he showed up in a huge chunk of Capcom's marvel fighters for no other real reason. They even fought to include him in MvK3 as DLC even after conceding to marvel refusing to let them use more popular chemicals like Venom. Why? Hell if I know YOU figure it out, I'm just the messenger.

I heard they had to change the name due to rights issues. From what we've seen in the trailer it appear this version may be a very weak manifestation used as a throwaway villain, but I hope I'm wrong.

At this point it’s well-known the monster in Multiverse of Madness was not Shuma but Gargantos, who is smaller and much weaker. If it were Shuma, it would have required the combined efforts of the Avengers and Strange to at least banish him back to his own dimension.
