The narrator seems to say that Charles Finley was the owner of the A's when Kansas City got major league baseball in 1955. That is incorrect. Arnold Johnson purchased the A's from the Connie Mack family and moved them from Philadelphia in 1955. When he died in 1960, Finley purchased the team from the Johnson estate. He later moved the team to Oakland after the 1967 season.

In a way, Municipal Stadium was my playground and I thank the good Lord I was able to live through that time as a kid. Chiefs games were fun and the fans were passionate. The A's games were fun but they lost a lot of games while in Kansas City and moved to Oakland after the 1967 season. They are not missed by anyone from Kansas City. Kansas City was without major league baseball for the 1968 season, so the Wolfpack seats that were erected for the Chiefs 1967 football season were left in place until after the Chiefs 1968 season, then taken down for the Royals 1st campaign of 1969. However, during the summer of 1968, the soccer team known as the Kansas City Spurs played home games at Muncipal Stadium before decent crowds at times, and on one occasion attracted almost 20,000 spectators when the Brazilian National Team featuring Pele came to town to play the Spurs. I was at the game with my family sitting up in those Wolfpack seats. A few months later, the Chiefs played 2-preseason games at Municipal Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals (47,000-plus) and Raiders (43,000-plus), and the regular season that followed was the Chiefs best ever at 12-2-0. Unfortunately, that season ended in Oakland in the worst defeat in Chiefs history (at that time) 41-6. A season later, the Chiefs recovered, posted a 11-3-0 record and won the final season of play in the American Football League with a 17-7 victory over Oakland. A week later the Chiefs won their only Super Bowl 23-7 over the NFL Minnesota Vikings in the last game EVER between the two leagues. The Chiefs would play 2-more seasons at Municipal Stadium (1970 & 1971) with the last game ever played by the Chiefs on Christmas Day 1971 against the Miami Dolphins, a 27-24 double overtime loss, the longest game in NFL history. The Chiefs moved to Arrowhead the following season and have been there ever since. The year 1969 was the Royals Inaugural Season and they finished with a losing record, but the Kansas City baseball fans came back with great gusto! Royals games drew decent to good crowds for most of the season with the promise by owner Ewing Kauffman of Championship Baseball to come. The Royals played a total of 4-seasons at Municipal Stadium before finally moving to their new ballpark at the Truman Sports Complex, now known as Kauffman Stadium. I have so many many vivid and great memories of Kansas City's Municipal Stadium and I wish it was still around.

I've slways felt kansas City got gypped by Finley. I grew up a Tigers fan and we were rarely great but we were always better than the old A's teams of the 1950s and 1960s. But we also knew from the mid-1960s on that the A's were building a powerhouse when they drafted guys like Bando and Reggie. It was only a matter of time. So, that's why I was so angry when Finley moved the team to oakland after the '67 season. I used to be a sports writer and my paper, the Grand Rapids Press, sent me to KC to cover the NAIA basketball tourney in 1977. While there, we writers were taken on a tour of the Truman sports complex (Royals Stadium and Arrowhead). I thought the nicest fans in the world were KC fans and I was very happy when the Royals won in1985 and 2015.

@priz oner You have a right to your opinion as do I. Apparently you saw the A's as a "beloved" type of team. I too used to...like...the A's, but when Finley left town for a "new" stadium complex in Oakland, (that's soon to meet the wrecking ball btw), thinking there were greener pastures there, he simply thumbed his nose at Kansas City and badmouthed my hometown. From that point on I could never back him, or the A's, regardless of their success. Sure they won 3-straight World Series as a very good team, no doubt. That's the way it went. But from EVERYONE I ever encountered who weighed in on the A's leaving KC, the overwhelming sentiment was: good riddance! As for the Chiefs and Arrowhead, you had to know that was coming as the 60's came to a close. I have indelible memories of old Municipal Stadium too and yes, they don't make em' like that anymore. But say what you will about Arrowhead, but it has become THE place for Chiefs fans to convene and enjoy an afternoon of NFL football. Maybe not for you, but for tens of thousands of Chiefs fans here in KC and around the world. Not sure where you're going with the terms: 'paint by numbers fake greatness'/rule enabled teams/players/stats football/baseball in this medicinal era' since the 1970's reality. Maybe some bitterness mixed in with a reluctance to let go of the past, I don't know. But I close this passage the way I opened it: you have a right to your opinion as do I. Long Live the AFL!

@priz oner Well, in a way we're like-minded and in other ways we differ. Agree to disagree=well said. Though I truly enjoyed the repartee' here, at this point I don't feel the need to dedicate any further energy to this exchange, as I am busy trying to take care of my family. I wish you well.
