if this happens it would be so awesome. I just purchased some plates from Strength co recently and they look great with my vintage York Olympic milled plates. I also have over 500lbs of York stand plates. I use these plates also in nearly every workout. I recently bought a second standard barbell, off Amazon, it is okay, I needed a replacement for another cheapish standard barbell. I do not own a York Barbell, so if a company like Strength co was making a standard bar and plates, well, you would get my business immediately for some of that gear.

This was illuminating seeing all the elements Grant has to consider for just one project . Truly a window into this or any business really . Great interview. Personally if these play to the idea of vintage of Old School "Pig Iron" with vintage look and feel I think they will sell like hotcakes . I think even people with Olympic size weight sets will buy these for curls and accessory work but making a barbell with it is a must in my opinion.

I built a new house with a small room for a gym. I always knew I wanted the old style standard plates. I began collecting them mostly rusty and multicoloured but I cleaned them up and painted them all John Deere green and I love them. I think they look better and more nostalgic than Olympic or any other modern weights.

Also there is a bit of nostalgia with those plates when I’m at a garage sale and I see one inch plates my eyes def open up especially if there old weidet or atlas or some brand you’ve never heard of even seen some Ted Williams sears robuck plates those are cool and there time and battle tested for sure

I still have my old weider and york standard plates that are probably 45 years old. They spent the better part of 25 years outside. I've made a pretty nice garage gym with olympic weights and nice benches but my old have their spot inside and still use em a bunch. They are rusty and a little beat up but I love em and will keep em forever. Have about 600 pounds of pig iron from 75, 50 and 25 lb plates and probably didn't pay 100 bucks for it back in the day.

I know it’s sounds odd but for curling especially straight bar I prefer the one inch pig iron plates they just seem more compact or remember the 150 lbs dumbbells with pig iron plates welded together those were great as well there’s def a market and especially if you keep that cost at a minimum
