We have used this coverage almost exclusively for the last 3 years with outstanding results and our players have picked it up very well. We do make some adjustments to it when we face trips. Thanks for the great video coach!!

You flood it vs trips?
@tgauge444 жыл бұрын
@@CoachMac This year we started to flood it. Years 1 and 2 I was still working on learning and teaching the system and we stayed in it even vs trips. (probably more so because I did not know any better). On paper it still works out ok, but what will usually get you into trouble playing this way is if teams run their #1 and #2 on deep routes, it turns into man-to-man with their #3 on your #3. Their #3 many times has better leverage and could be a pretty good athlete that you have to cover with a lot of open space. Your #3 has to also worry about the run game and usually ends up in a chase position trying to cover the flat. Years 1 and 2 we had guys that could do that. This year - no way! So we adapted and "flooded" the coverage. Our CB plays a true "country" cover 3 and must get depth and divide if we get 2 verticals to his side (in our league most teams do not throw the deep ball to #1 in trips anyway). Our OLB player becomes a true flat player and everyone else bumps over a zone towards the trips side. This still gives us a single high middle of the field player to help with any post routes and we will usually play some type of man coverage on the back side. We could play some type of zone to the backside if we knew they had a stud on the single side that the we trying to isolate.

Great video coach. Still play a lot of single-high, spot dropping Cover 3 here in the UK university level. Rarely do we see QBs who can make the high velocity passes into the seam or the long accurate pass to the corner route. We see a lot of slants, 4 verts and shallow cross passing concepts. Some of the players are brand new to the sport and pattern matching and reading releases is far too difficult a transition from what ever sport they came from. Would end up with all our DBs having paralysis by analysis

Great video as usual !! Coach I asked this question before but still questioning how do we do a good job of of containing the QB when WE play are DEs in a 4i in our 3-3 stack ???
@CoachMac4 жыл бұрын
You still need to have C gap players with 4I’s so they play the QB in run game. In the passing game you need to spy with a late 4th rusher or get them to recognize pass sets and rush outside. The edge is weaker with 4I’s but that’s usually because that’s where you want the ball sent

What would happen if 1&2 ran a 2 vert switch? Are the corner and safety passing them off to each other or running with them?

Certain releases will be zoned off, probably a game plan adjustment based on splits

Hey coach how you work your coverage defense in 7 On 7 when the offense has 6 WR ?
@CoachMac4 жыл бұрын
Somewhere along the line I’m sure the center was counted in the equation. I didn’t make up the term. I actually prefer to call it skeleton

@@CoachMac some places have a center and some don’t. 6 WR’s is hard, don’t want to confuse kids with our coverages changes just for 7 on 7

@CoachMac @CoachMac we play some other stuff but our day-1 install is Cover-3. I love the fact that it's symmetrical, thus easy to adjust to motions and shifts. Rip-Liz plays like Cover-3 but it also plays like Cover-1. It defends C3 beaters and it passes off C1 beaters. I like forcing the ball deep and outside, and that's what Rip-Liz does for us.
