The Ultimate DDD Skip Suigi describes at 19:08 is known as YOLO SBL, while the one shown on screen is normal Ultimate DDD Skip from Cosmalano. He provided us with an explanation of the one shown on screen- "The ultimate suigi is describing approaches the door from the side, where as the one in the clip falls into the door. Vertical motion during airbljs is always the same, regardless of speed, so he always launches on the exact same quarter frame, which is not a controlled variable in the usual method, and a major source of its inconsistency, even when the same inputs are performed.
@treybordo
@treybordo 3 ай бұрын
The sblj and airbljs are more specific to ensure that this “falling” launch happens, but if done properly, it leaves only 2 possible frames for the hall blj. The launch requires a specific stick angle, so everything about this method is controlled, which is what makes it more consistent than the method that launches from the side, but it doesnt lose any time compared to the “yolo” method (besides cases where you mash fast on the sblj or do 1 airblj for yolo), which is why it’s hard to see a difference. This method also allows for a ground pound directly into fire sea, however this is extremely hard and hence not in the clip"
@Cosmalano
@Cosmalano 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for posting this. Just to add one thing, “yolo ultimate” is the normal ultimate ddd skip. “Yolo” is just my phrasing since the quarter frame isnt controlled. I dont really have a name for mine yet

I'm loving those history videos, I'm really looking forward for more! I feel though that there's a 0 star runner that is by far the most underrated, simply because he never got to hold an actual WR, which is Cjrokokomero, also known as Cj; between 2022 and 2023 he has been on many WR paces, basically constantly in 2nd place, also setting many former community bests, he was probably THE WR contender and very likely to get one... he unfortunately never managed to break through. Even during Suigi's dominance, he got some WR paces, of which also a 6:14 bpt into BLJs. He's currently not running SM64 for the moment. Also, Cosmalano has been developing ultimate DDD skip to some crazy levels, developing setups that he proved to have some insane consistency compared to what it used to be just 1 year ago. I'm not an expert at all, so I really hope noone takes my words for granted and check out both people, it's for completely different reasons, but I really feel like they both deserve much much more attention.

Crazy thing about Suigi's current WR run is that he made more than 4 seconds worth of mistakes in the BLJs and BitS making sub 6:15 possible. He was on best pace ever by less than a tenth of a second after BitFS. 6:14 is definitely possible, but I'll be extremely shocked when it happens.

I saw comments comparing this to Summoning Salt. Idk if that is the kind of content you aim for, but just in case, here's some constructive criticism from a fellow video editor. The biggest gap is in storytelling skills, this video felt too much like a list of records. To be more summoning salty (aka an enegaging story that keeps you on your toes and makes you love the speedrun even if you've never seen the category before) it needs to focus more on the runners' emotions, goals and motivations, make more cliffhangers, show close attempts that failed, and give important moments time to breath (eg you can't say that someone made a crazy improvement with a crazy skip and after 0.1 seconds move on to someone else). Just the first things that came to mind, hope this helps!

this will definitely be taken into account in the next video we produce. one thing we want to make clear is while we take inspiration from summoning salt, we dont intend to build a story the same way he does. our recaps are made by speedrunners for speedrunners, hence the brevity in certain segments which come from the hindsight that the viewers of the video know what we are talking about (the bowser in the dark world reds wr recap is a perfect example of something niche) however i can also acknowledge the face paced nature of the video is for viewer retention. slowly but surely the length and script will increase with each new video
@remedy64
@remedy64 3 ай бұрын
another thing to mention as far as the recap is considered, research for categories like 0/1 star are not as heavily documented. meaninc there really wasn't alot for us to work with during the research period regarding runs/runners due to the insane gaps in time each period of the wr grind took.

Hey, I like the video man. Saw it in my recommended and decided to see how well it was made. Production, writing, and audio are all pretty good, and I think you could keep doing this. However, I do think you could use some differentiation from our boi SummoningSalt. This isn’t to say that this is a copy paste of his style of content. However, the choice of music background and general editing style are a little too close to what he does for your individual personality to shine through. Nice video bro! Just some constructive criticism: if you’re brand new to the Mario 64 speed running scene this might be a little bit of whiplash for them. I think explanation on what BLJs are and negative speed, why you need to take the route that you do and why it’s different from other categories, and a little better explanation on the pole up warp. (or suggest a video for more info, there’s lots of them) Otherwise I love speed run history videos like these, would love to see more dog!

@@treybordo That’s a fair point for sure. Though I think it’s always nice for people, especially new people, to get a brief explanation of obscure mechanics that aren’t very obvious when you’re casually playing. For example slip drifting or wall hopping in Mario Kart Wii, or moonkick in Donkey Kong 64. Those are things that are very prevalent in speedrunning those games but aren’t obvious and are helpful to know or get a refresher even if you already know about it. They also only take a little bit to explain.
