I'm an old gearhead & MoPar man, everytime I get in an argument with my blue oval & bowtie buddies I just say 3 numbers & 4 letters ( 426 HEMI ) & they go ballistic " Hey Man, why you gotta go there?! " Well, I'll say. It's a production engine, it dominated NASCAR, NHRA & still dominates NHRA ( what do you think is powering them top fuel & funny cars?) Its the greatest internal combustion engine of all time, after 70 years it's still producing big power.

The Hemi actually got its start as a inverted aircraft motor for the military way before the car motors were thought of. In the mid 60s dodge also had developed a bastard child in the inline 6 hemi that more resembles the inline 6 jeep then the slant 6 that we are familiar with here in the states. They tested it in a few Plymouth Cudas and the A100s as they failed in our market but it was shipped off to Australia were they thrived!

XP-47H spinoff from the P-47 1945. Chrysler had a commercial about the Hemi briefly showing the P-47 in that commercial.

We dyno'd a bone stock HEMI (not rebuilt) with factory tune and made 459 HP/490 TQ. Confident with fresh rings, some jetting/timing it would be closer to 500HP. That's with 10.25:1 comp and very mild street cam. Reason why the race HEMI motors of '64-65 and '68 dominated their NHRA classes.

At .49 you show a 1951-early 1954 Fire power 331 c.i. Hemi. Be advised no parts are useful on the 1963-1971 426 Hemi which is what you are talking about here?

Another fact that will shut them blue oval & bowtie lovers up for good since 1967, no other engine type BUT the HEMI has set records & STILL does in the NHRA. Y'all can check that if yaz don't believe me.
