Avatar is an interesting movie. I’m very intrigued for the sequels. Jake is my favorite character in the film. He’s persevered through difficult situations and he becomes a different person when he wants to be a part of the Na’vi.

It's so ridiculous there are very few movies out there that aren't based on some other story, legends, and tales. One of my favorite movies is The Seven Samurai and I love it that Star Wars include that story in an episode of The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian. There's so much depth to this story but people have been so dumbed down that they don't want to look past the surface. They see reviews like The Critical Drinker and parrot the same bs about it being a Pocahontas rip off or whatever.
@bacchante12 жыл бұрын
I'll grant that the CGI is amazing, but if this was not a CGI-driven film with beautiful visuals, you have to admit the story would be ho-hum. The people are such stereotypes -- the mean and nasty drill sergeant that oozes cliched machismo, the greedy, clutching bureaucrats, the lovely princess who is the first to meet/be impressed by/fall in love with the hero, the protagonist who turns out to be larger than life ('chosen' by the gods, pulling off stunts like riding a leonoptyrix when no one else has for thousands of years?) It left absolutely no room for shades of grey. There were good guys and bad guys, and no one on the fence. It was a kid's movie, pure and simple. These weren't aliens, they were furries who looked and acted exactly like humans. Stereotypical nature-loving Native Americans, to be exact. It was unimaginative as a story in the extreme, with logic holes large enough to drive truck through. (Completely as a side note, they're portrayed as a bit sexist, as well. Jake gets to 'choose a woman'? Really? What if she doesn't want to marry an alien?) But after all, who would watch a story about a protagonist who falls in love with the village weaver, because what power would he have then? I won't say it was exactly like Pocahontas, but I will say they could have put a little more effort into the script. Made people less black-and-white, made some good people make bad decisions or portray the bad people with real human reasons for the things they do (like some of the 'bad guys' might simply have been there because they needed the money for their families, and siding with the Na'vi would mean abandoning them). Most people aren't caricatures of evil, smirking while blowing up a village with missiles, like the soldier was shown doing. Or how about having the aliens be a little more.... alien? Your opinion is yours, but mine isn't because it is 'similar' to other movies. It's because I hoped that with such stunning visuals, they might have made it less... Disney? Which is probably silly because, well. It IS Disney.

I can see a lot of issues with the ikran and multiple people able to connect with the same Avatar. Specifically on the ikran's psychy. When a bond is formed it's not just physical, it's a mental bond as well. I can see a lot of problems when a driver decides to fly on an ikran another driver bonded with and the ikran subsequently attacking it's rider due to the foreign mind it feels within.
@OGDMaco2 жыл бұрын
only one person can connect to the same avatar because when that avatar was being created part of the humans DNA was placed into it. Which is why when jades brother died the company reached out to him because of his DNA was alike of his brother.

It was pretty obvious without following the lore beyond the movie that the AVATARS were very different and definitely hybrid compared to a pure Na'vi They have hands and feet with 5 digits, and lack the oposable big toe that Na'vi have (but, you have to really look for that in the Movie) the facial structure is obviously different, with a less "cat like" nose, and slightly smaller human shaped eyes, with eyebrows - which Na'vi lack. The head cue starts closer to the nape of the neck on an AVATAR, and AVATARS appear to have more hair on the head than a Na'vi (although this could be due to Na'vi fashion vs a natural lack of full hair coverage) The torso musculature in an AVATAR is more robust, and less willowy than a Na'vi. I've always been curious if these differences are unintended side effects of developing a AVATAR with a brain that a human can link with - or were they engineered to ensure that it was possible to tell at a glance the difference between an AVATAR and a Na'vi for security and driver dextarity reasons?
@DearStephanieX2 жыл бұрын
This a very interesting observation because I noticed this too. The Na’vi were slim and the avatars were slightly broader/bigger making them almost appear clumsy by default. I think the differences were definitely intentional.
@epicty3607 Жыл бұрын
That’s probably how the pure local Na Vi can tell the difference between a human controlled AVATAR and native Na Vi if they observe closely.

The one thing that concerns me here although I'm just starting to learn about all the stuff that is documented about the world officially outside of the first movie which I've had no exposure to is where they're going with the psionic link stuff, based on this video (and I'll dig into this more later) I'm assuming this means that the link technically works faster than light? That's a pretty big Science kink to have as it can be abused badly but I'm not sure how much of this is supposed to be cannon in the Avatar universe vs something Disney was doing for rides and what not but given the things that would be impossible in the real world as a sci-fi buff that likes their sci-fi grounded I hope it doesn't get too weird.
