I lived in Singapore for the years 2006-2007 because my job took us there; “us” being me, my now husband Alain, and our cat Malcolm. Even back then, not a single Singaporean ever EVER treated us with anything other than respect as if we were like any other people. This included people from my work who we would sometimes socialize with. Maybe it’s a totally different matter for native Singaporeans, where there are different pressures from the Chinese, Malay, Tamul, and other cultures. But as a couple of guys from the States, everyone in that country was perfectly awesome to us, even at almost 20 years ago.

the problem w 377a is equality - gay women can have all the gay sex they want without legal repercussions but gay men get branded as criminals. either you outlaw all forms of gay sex, or you allow all forms of it.

The vid said 377 is men women and animals. 377a is a subject on men from the subject of 377. Which I think 377 as a whole should remind to protect women and animals. But 377a is a little different in today's society.

@@heyontv 377 is even more problematic - so problematic that they re-did the law a few years ago. basically the original 377 said you cant have "unnatural" sex. then comes the question - what is natural/unnatural? is oral sex unnatural? what about anal? what about ? they even debated this in parliament - and realized original 377 was written too broadly that everyone would have been criminals.

Equality is not a problem at all. Men and women are treated differently in law. For example, no caning for women.

@@linhwang6651 you have to ask yourself - what is the basis of this inequality in the law? i.e. women dont get caned, women dont go NS -> the basis (rightly or wrongly) is that women are (generally) physically weaker than men side note: men > 50 also dont get caned for same reasons but what about 377a? whats the basis? lesbians can get freaky but gay men cant?

the stand is, whether you see homosexuality as bad, or good. And, the law's purpose is to enforce good laws to maintain a good society. The issue is, whether gay people in Singapore feel loved and accepted. The problem is, what happens when homosexuality becomes a defining aspect of our culture and moral values when its ideas are pushed, in the name of accepting the LGBT community. Too bad the Law just treats criminals that way.

No. They're just getting rid of a penal code that criminalises men having sexual intercourse. This law wasn't even enforced but yet still the older generation want to retain it. As it they're gonna enforce the law. Hence PM Lee announced that it's going to be repealed. Leading Singapore one step forward to a better nation. Also, the government doesn't recognise same-sex marriage at all. Marriage in Singapore is only between a man and a woman. Not sure if it's going the change in the near future.
