I am seventy now , When i was twelve i herd a steel guitar for the first time. I am from New Zealand , this type of guitar was not common here. I never forgot that first encounter with the steel guitar. I have played a guitar for almost sixty years now, I also repair them . Steel guitars are still difficult to get in NZ so i now build them from scratch, and have taught myself to play them

This was great. I hope young people learn to play the steel guitar. The sound it makes is so relaxing, beautiful and tropical.

@@ramonguerrero1093 Not at all! 22 is so young, and if you haven't started yet, 23 is a good age too to start. I read this quote the other day that really changed my perspective on starting things later in life, "Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway."

@@ramonguerrero1093 If it’s too late for you, I might as well forget music altogether at 40! Nope, it’s never too late as long as there’s breath in your body.

Lucky we have several different kinds of Hawaiian music today 2022. Now like the Steel guitar, falsetto, slack key, Jawaiian, hiphop, rap, old style, contemporary, classic, chant, kahiko, olapa, folk and all the basic styles throughout Polynesia. A new genre is entering the field it is called "IWI" music.

I play Mohan veena, which is essentially derived from a Hawaiian steel guitar introduced to India by Tau Moe in the 1940s. We play raga music on it and Bollywood and other light music. I also lived in Hawaii and so it's beautiful to see the history of this Hawaiian instrument. Does anyone know where I can find sheet music or tutorials for these Hawaiian songs? Mahalo ❤️🙏

As a non-musician, I've reinvented the lap steel tuning to be simpler and easier to play. Read from bottom to top, the first column is the number of half note intervals. Bb. .017 3 G. .024 -8 Eb. .017 3 C. .017 4 Ab. .020 3 F. .021 4 Db. .030w 3 Bb. .034w -8 Gb. .021 3 Eb. .024 With this setup, I can emulate just about anything I'd want to. As far as Im concerned, the simpler sounds are best anyway. On my 25" scale length, these string guages yeild the fullest possible sound.
