As a teenager, I worked at McDonald's from 98-00, and they introduced the McRib that summer for the season. We hated it! It was messy, required fastidious clean up, and was difficult to keep warm because the sauce would eventually dry up and turn into paste. We were always happy to see it go in the fall. I remember nights of constant scrubbing to get the warming plates clean of that forsaken paint, aka BBQ sauce that would cement itself onto the insides of said plate.p

The McRib is actually made from pork only. Its not high grade meat. Its barely mid grade but its good. Its actually the same quality pork sold in places like Walmart and places like it. Its not bad. It does have a lot of sugar. Not a crazy amount but a good amount. I cant speak for other restaurants that make their versions of a McRib. Theres a video with the entire process of how its made.

The Mcrib got cancelled at my local McDonald's because of customers buying in bulk and slowing down the service. There was literally a picket around the store calling for the Mcrib to be reinstated. Imo, it should be a regular food item. It's so dam good. ♥

The McRib always grossed me out. I worked at McD's as a teenager and we used to pull out those oddly-shaped frozen bricks, put them on the grill, then toss them in a vat of barbecue sauce that bubbled all day and had to be stirred to keep from burning. When someone ordered one, we had to fish one out and slap it on a bun with pickles and raw onions. Heinous. No thank you.

Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of working at McDonald’s knows exactly what it was like to warm up the McRib BBQ Sauce. Although delicious, this sauce warmed up was like pepper spray in food form. I’m not kidding, this stuff literally would make you tear up and burn your nostrils every time you had to open the container. I worked there for 3 years before I left I could go on and on about that place.

And we should remember that the Mcrib is in no way using the best parts of the animal, back in the past they would have thrown these away cause they didnt have the technology to make it palatable. As recent as the 18th century, people were buying the day old leftover meat from the tables of the nobility, and the normal meat people ate was not beef or pork but chicken, once a week or so.

When I was 10 years old, I chipped two teeth on what was supposed to be a boneless McRib. This occurred while my father and I dined in and wound up speaking to the manager. They took our information, the sandwich and the fragments, then opened up a case file. We got a call from corporate - after some negotiation they covered the cost of my dental fees plus a nominal cash settlement, which my father promptly set aside towards my post secondary education. Twenty years later, the McRib was available once more. Yes, I was foolish enough to try it again.. and yes, I chipped one tooth and sliced up my gums in the process. Spoke to manager, same thing - filled out forms, said corporate would be in touch. I told my father about the incident. A few days later he photocopied my original incident report with the settlement details and gave it to me. Corporate called me back and during the conversation I casually mention having encountered the same issue back in the 1980’s. They responded with disbelief telling the chances of that happening are astronomical. I agree, it is astronomical - but it happened, and I have the original copy of the first report from when I was 10 years old. Could they have a copy? Sure. Several weeks after sending them the original report with the file number I received a phone call from a law firm. I was offered a settlement much larger than the prior one without even bartering or negotiating. Needless to say, I’ve rarely frequented a McDonalds since. Lol

Joey I fully realize that. This was explained to me by management when I was 10 years old. Which is why they collected the remnants of the sandwich and the fragments and sent them away for further analysis. Therein lies the confusion as to how a foreign object wound up in there in the first place. Because there shouldn’t have been any. When I was a kid my first immediate presumption was that it was bone. Which is why I worded my statement in that manner. Could have been who knows what - they never did tell me to this day as I never kept the fragments. You don’t have to believe me, you’re entitled to your opinion. I have nothing to gain by posting this comment.
