+Cliven work horse and cannon fodder all in one. every-time a Miranda was was shown on screen it was blowing up... they fell by the dozens in each battle vs the dominion. that is why when the Federation finally learned the needed good ships they made Akira , Steamrunner, and Prometheus'for mid size ships.
@maddslothii25326 жыл бұрын
+Cliven that is my main point it is horribly out dated. not that older ships could not be made to pack a punch. (that excelsior in paradise lost) went toe to toe with the Defiant. but never was a Miranda given such love. the least the Federation could have done is upgrade it a bit so it was more like a F-4 vs a F-22 they are still screwed but at least they might do something useful.
@RealengoPrimordialDemon4 жыл бұрын
Miranda has a bad reputation of being the red shirt of Starfleet ships but Miranda's consistently has to fight against ships far bigger and powerful. The only times you get to see a Miranda destroyed in battle is against a Borg cube, a Jem Hadar battle cruiser or a Cardassian weapons platform and any of those can destroy the most powerful ship Starfleet has.

nice collection of pictures and tech facts, but the pacing of the kiddie techno music and the narration could not have been farther apart. Moreover you should really really do one or two test runs to not trip over vocabulary. This would really lift these videos into another level.

Miranda's my 2nd favorite ship after the Connie. I always thought of her as a light cruiser with similar mission profiles as the Connie, just not quite as good at it. (less labs, less power and weapons, etc.) A cheaper explorer to fill in the gaps during the Federation's big expansion effort mid-late 23rd century would be welcome.

This was a very good review of The Miranda Class vessel! Thank you for that! My eldest daughter's name is Miranda, so' I'll make sure that this review is passed along to her! Strange, I have a chart illustrating various ships of the Fleet, called the "Federation Starship Recognition Chart", which includes silhouettes of many Federation Class Starships for the purpose of training helm crew, but, Miranda Class is not named on it. Yet, it has Coventry Class, Surya Class, Knox Class, Avenger/Cyane Class, Duran Class, and Kirov Class, which all appear as versions of the Miranda Class.

These babies were Battlecruisers. Heavy firepower but little staying power. They were also a bit faster and leaner. They could dish it out better then a Connie, but couldn't take the hits like one.
@Ryan_Christopher2 жыл бұрын
That’s the definition of a Heavy Frigate or a Destroyer, certainly not a Battlecruiser. Battlecruisers, for current reference, is what Russia has. One of which is famous for being sunk by Ukraine when it should have been able to defend itself.

The Miranda class never did sit well with me, and after so many decades, I've figured out why. The original Enterprise was a modified lying saucer. In 1965, the gold standard for an interstellar spacecraft was a flying saucer, and that was just what Matt Jeffries delivered. Gene Roddenberry sent it back. He wanted something different. The Enterprise saucer is the most sophisticated flying saucer ever designed for theater, but it wasn't good enough for Gene Roddenberry. The saucer is so sophisticated, it actually has a functional design. It is actually shaped like a laser projectile, minus air vents. The concave shape, with the conical structure in the middle works as a thrust chamber. In short, the saucer was designed to blast straight up, into the sky. When one put this together with the tenuous connection to the engineering hull, the engineering hull is merely an accessory. It is possible the Jeffries designed the ship, before transporters were thought of, and wanted to make the saucer separate for planetary landings. What is certain is that Jeffries designed a flying saucer first, and the engineering hull was an add-on. This means that the shape of the entire ship doesn't make sense if the engineering hull isn't an accessory to the saucer. It looks like the saucer was designed to separate under routine conditions. The model of the Reliant was built to look like the Enterprise, only in a different configuration. It is a kit-bash designed in such a way the audience is not likely to confuse one with the other. Aside from the obvious script requirements, there is absolutely no reason the saucer section of the Reliant should even vaguely resemble that part of the Enterprise. One should not look too deeply. Unfortunately, when a model maker looks too deeply into Star Trek models, they see how the rules of starship design get twisted and broken. Very few ST model are seem to operate withing the same design constraints.
@OmegaOrdained6 жыл бұрын
Wow very well put. That is crazy to think that the enterprise is a modded flying saucer . I grew up on next generation and never put the two together. Thank you for the history lesson 😂😂😂
@ThatsMrPencilneck2U6 жыл бұрын
As technology improves, a later, much larger ship would likely be a stylized version of an earlier iconic spacecraft. There is every reason in the world for Picard's Enterprise to be a sleeker version of Kirk's. Archer's Enterprise, however, is an abomination. It looks derivative only for the sake of the audience expecting something derivative.

Actually the class name for the ship was most likely chosen by starship designer Larry Maverick in honor of Dr. Maranda Jones a woman he was in love / obsessed with (‘Is There In Truth No Beauty" TOS). Also really should do a dry run on your script before you record this so that you pronounce names correctly or at least close to correctly. There were numerous miss pronunciations in here many of which were very drastic. It makes you come off as unprofessional.
