I was raised on eating the monster cereals!! Back then, all the flavors were real an not artificial..the Franken Berry's tasted like Strawberry and MY FAVORITE Boo-Berry tasted like blueberries. But ever since their 'seasonal' return in 2013, they are all artificial flavored now and taste like chemicals, so my fond remembrance of a childhood pleasure has been ruined. Perhaps for their anniversary, they should go back to the real flavors and, but i'm betting they won't.

I'm pretty sure Stephen King took ... inspiration? from the FrankenBerry stool discoloration fiasco for the cereal company sideplot in Cujo. Now, _why_ he put that side plot in a book about a rabid dog terrorizing a junkyard is beyond me, but Stephen King's gonna Stephen King.

From Walmart’s website: MASH-UP OF ALL “MONSTERS CEREALS: For the first time ever, pieces from all Monster Cereals are together in one bowl.” The cereal is Boo and Frankenberry, the variously hued marbits represent Chocula (swirled ghosts and bats), Brute (orange monster heads), and Mummy (yellow monster heads)-there are also Frank and Boo marbits.

Great topic and well done! Vampire iconography has always had a problem with perceived anti-semitism. It's been an innocent coincidence in every case I've ever seen, but the silent movie Nosferatu (1922) took the worst of it.
@orinanime3 жыл бұрын
"Innocent coincidence"? Many historians would have something to say about that. There's a hefty amount of xenophobic subtext and actual text going on in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Nosferatu and plenty of others.
@horrorhabit84213 жыл бұрын
@@orinanime Well, the director of Nosferatu, F.W. Murnau, was no Nazi. I'm quick to point this out because a lot of people mis-represent him. He emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1926, when the Weimar Republic was still on. Anyway, the actor who played the vampire in Nosferatu, Conrad Veidt, was also no Nazi. He left Germany in 1933 strictly because he was worried for his Jewish wife. The plague themes in Nosferatu were probably based on the flu pandemic of 1918. In Dracula (1931) the portrayal of Dracula as an eastern European boogeyman/invader was probably a relic of WWI. I suppose there is some xenophobia there, but it wasn't directed at Jewish people in particular. Also, notice that by the 60's, in Hammer's remake, Dracula was about as English as you can get! There is very little xenophobia evident in Hammer's version.
@orinanime3 жыл бұрын
@@horrorhabit8421 i never once accused anyone, especially Murnau of being a Nazi. And it doesn't matter that Christopher Lee's Dracula was English. His CHARACTER was still a European foreigner who moved to England to prey upon English people. Just go look it up. There are countless books, scholarly articles and video essays and more detailing this aspect of Dracula/Nosferatu/etc.
@horrorhabit84213 жыл бұрын
@@orinanime Of course, I know you didn't accuse anyone of being a Nazi. I was the one who brought that into the conversation. I think that the semiotics of Christopher Lee's character may be more important than his stated biography. I realize that there are plenty of accusations about horror movies from film critics who wish to God they were writing about Fellini or Bergman films instead. But frankly, those people live in academic echo chambers and get further from base reality all the time.

@@horrorhabit8421 so.... you're just going to dismiss decades of analysis from people who have studied this stuff for years if not their lives... on the presumption that they resent having to analyze one thing over another.... ? Okay. You do you booboo. You do you.
