The first time I ever went to Toys R US, I actually got He-Man from this line! I "wasn't feeling good," so my Dad let me stay home from school. On TV there was a commercial for Toys R Us, I remember running to my Dad excited to tell him about this store I just heard of and then he told me that store isn't that far from is, so he drove me to Douglaston Plaza! I was so excited and this started a weekly TRU Trip for us. I got He-Man that day and another day I wound up getting that role play sword too. This was my He-Man! After being a fan of pulp sci-fi, this line was so much more visually interesting than anything from Filmation. As far as the voice cast goes, Campbell Lane made NA Skeletor his own. Optimus Primal, in retrospect, doesn't quite land the same way as the voice of He-Man. The toys (including the Skull Staff, which I owned as a kid) were the real draw here though. I even went as far as collecting the Space Mutants from the Classics line. The thing with the excellent 2001 series was that the original didn't have to deal with multiple dedicated cartoon channels like 2001 did. It was just a different time, the original aired typically on broadcast TV just as cable tv was coming into existence where only a few people had it... by 2001 everybody had cable with 200 channels and at least 3+ dedicated cartoon channels so I think it was just got lost in too many choices, It didn't help that Cartoon Network was awful at scheduling it with inconsistent timeslots and long stints between seasons.

I had the Skeletor with the cape, Brakk, and Optikk. They were pretty cool action figures for the time. Lots of articulation, felt pretty sturdy, the action gimmicks didn’t seem too obtrusive in the toys I had. I don’t remember watching the show. I did watch the original He-Man in syndication, but I didn’t have the toys. I think they were no longer selling them at that point, which might explain why I had toys from the new series instead. I was born in ‘85.

Fun fact: In some European countries the New Adventures of He-Man toyline was actually called "Super He-man". I guess the toy company thought that since the regular He-Man was already super strong, if you rename this new version into "Super He-man", kids would love it, since that would like make him like "double super" or something. This marketing ploy did not work and this new toyline was mostly unsuccessful We didn't get the cartoon or even the regular comic book, but instead just had this weird mini-comic that didn't have drawn images but was made by using photographs of the toys used to tell slightly altered version of the back story.

I’ve never known whether that was a coincidence or the two channels trying to outdo each other! 😂 Also, the New Adventures “movie” consisted of the first 5 episodes cut together (not the first 3) - I was once told by Jack Olesker that this cut-together version was shown at a movie theatre right at the beginning of the New Adventures’ life, I presume it’s the same cut 😀

Can't speak to anyone else but for me the "New Adventures" didn't click for several reasons 1. The Animation Shift in the Series - they didn't look enough like the Filmation character Models... if you saw a still of the show with no graphics IDing it as a MOTU property you'd be hard pressed to ID it as such 2. The Scale shift in the Toys - the originals were 5.5 ... 3.75 were the 'norm' thanks to Star Wars/GI Joe... these came out in some weird 4.25? scale 3. The Delay in Launch *according to IMDb - The original ended November 1985 - the Film was August 1987 - She Ra ended December 1987 - New Adventures Debuted in September 1990 with three years of only reruns even the "little brothers' were starting to age out ... - and for my part the revival also came with a Channel Hop... Both He-Man and She-Ra aired on the same affiliate, albeit with She-Ra in the morning (with the 'girl shows), and He-Man in the afternoons with the 'Boys shows') but when New Adventures came along it was on a whole other channel... which in my case didn't come in consistently so even if 12-year-old me had been willing (I probably would have) I couldn't find it when it was new

The electronic power sword from NA was my favorite toy to play with back then. It lit up, had all kinds of battle sounds, and even had a power up mode. It was the first ever role play sword I know of that had sounds that would activate when hitting something with it. The NA show itself was a bit confusing when trying to tie it into the original MOTU, but I enjoyed it when I could find it on TV to watch. I remember the original NA He-Man figure's sword handle snapping off, requiring me to get a new one, which broke as well. Apparently it was a really common issue, which is why they changed it when making newer He-Man figures for the line. Why they had the sword look different is anyone's guess though.

I remember watching half of this as a kid. I say half, because in my local area, it was in a terrible time slot, meaning I got to watch the first half of an episode before my mom dragged me away to school. I also remember describing it to friends later, before the internet catologged everything in great detail, and I was met with so much skepticism I started to think maybe it was a fever dream. "Why would He-Man wear pants?" they would rightly point out.

Surprised Mr. Larson didn’t ask “Is it Canon?” for the New Adventures of He-Man.

Speaking of "New Adventures" I like the look of the new studio layout.

Digging the new background, Dan. Friendly to the eyes.

The new backdrop is a void as The New Adventures of He-Man. This episode of Toy Galaxy, though? Tops! Thank you for this. Also, that commercial at 9:15 made me cry a bit with nostalgia.

I own that 30th anniversary set! Great little investment that came with a soundtrack and a golden powersword! The New Adventures episodes are ' the best of' but are mainly Skeletor episodes including the very last episode of the series.

Nearly..... three-dozen figures?! Unbelievable! I think Laser Light Skeletor was the first time we see Skeletor's scalp under the hood. And it was icky.

Watching this video made me realize I had so many toys from this growing up that I seemingly inherited from my sister(?) and just never realized what they came from.
