I think Yue was supposed to be the next Avatar. Think about it: Korra’s father was the son of the Northern Water Tribe’s Chief, meaning that Korra and Yue are related and from the same bloodline. Then, Avatar Aang was frozen and therefore lived longer than what could be considered ‘natural’, hence why Yue was born so sick and needed the help of the Moon spirit to keep her alive, because she didn’t have the avatar spirit since Aang was still alive.

Raava and Vaatu are the Yin and Yang of The World of Avatar, they represent different ideals that oppose each other and when they fight/wrestle it was in a shape of Yin and Yang(Also they have the whole Raava as a little Vaatu in it and Vaatu has as a little Raava). The fish represents The Ocean and The Moon Also the Sun/Comets affect firebenders, but I don't know about Air and Earth

I'm amazed how the origin of bending well explained on Avatar: The legend of Aang, until The Legend of Korra explained that all of the bending was a gift from the giant lion turtle.

@Shonksu In Korra they show that humans got the ability to use the elements from lion turtles, but they were taught to bend the elements by the the animals and moon. That's explained when we see Wan training with the dragon after getting fire. The soldiers that tried attacking him even said something along the lines of "I've never seen anything like it. He was using fire as if it was extension of himself." The original benders showed people how to use the elements as an extension of their body, but didn't actually give people the ability to use the element. As years went on and lion turtles disappeared, it became a legend that people learned the elements from the original benders because no one really remembered the lion turtles. The sun warriors weren't wrong, the dragons are the original bending masters, but humans didn't gain the ability to use fire from them

Each Lion Turtle had a different element, the one in Atla was Spirit/Energy, the others in LoK were Fire, Air, Water, Earth. Those 5 Turtles(there could be more but they were hunted or something, also anyone who butthurt about the lion turtles giving humans bending and etc... never pay attention to the Library epsidoe, cause the first time we see the lion turtle we see like we saw them in LoK). Those turtle give/take the ability to bend to humans they didn't teach them, they give them the ability to bend while Dragons, Air Bison, Badger Mole and Koi Spirit Fish were the "Original Bending Masters". So the turtles give them the ability and the Masters nurtured that ability which in a sense is part of the world avatar cause it represents balance

@@KhanMann66 The most accepted explanation was that the original sources were the spirits that taught the benders how to use their bending, while the ability to bend came from the Lion turtles. This falls in line with how Lion turtles gave the ability to energy bend to Aang, which is just about the same process where the benders of the past gain their abilities. This is actually lines up with the fact that everyone has the chance to possess the ability to bend, but not everyone is a bender. So even if a bunch of people who have earth nation heritage go to a badgermole to learn from them, only some will actually be able to learn from them since only some of them will be able to bend earth. So the original source is not so much the original source, rather it is just the source that is more focused with a style that aligns with a creature/spirit that possesses the ability naturally. For examples, the dragon became known as the original source as they were the ones that cherished and used fire. So the movement of the dragons became the basis for the stances and types of moves used by many fire benders of the old age. The idea of the creature being a orignal source moreso comes from the fact that they are the creatures that live and breathe the elements they represent, which led to them being known as the original source.

I just realize something ... Moon is the original water bender because of the moon's phases' effect on the sea. Oceans current strength and the tide ( high tide or low tide ) depends on the phase of the moon. No water animal can bend elements the way dragon, badger moles, and sky bison do. So the water benders learn from the observation of the sea, the way other benders learn their bending by observing animals

So this has bothered me since season 2 of LoK, the different stories on the origin of bending. In AtLA we hear legends of how the various bending arts were learned from the various "original benders," bison, dragons, badger moles, and the moon spirit. But in Korra we hear that it was actually the lion turtles who gave people the ability to bend Maybe the stories each bending art has about how the original benders learned to bend are just legends, passed down for so many generations that they're believed to be fact Or it could be that the first benders got the raw ability to bend from the lion turtles, but the "original benders" were the ones to teach people how to use their bending as an extension of themselves rather than just pushing out raw power. Kinda like how we see differences in Wan's fire bending style which he learned from a dragon spirit, and the way that the other people from the fire lion turtle city bend by just pushing out fire, rather than using it as an extension of their bodies Idk, it's a weird conflict between the series' that I think needs to be touched on more

Oh yes, It's very confusing and needs more explanation. Personally, I'm much more inclined toward the Animals were the original benders for a couple reasons. Physical Evidence: In "the cave of the two lovers" we find physical evidence that Oma and Shu existed. Even though they are a legend, we found a tomb that verifies they existed. Literary Statement: We are told multiple that the animals were the original benders. (Basic exposition) Yet it is never verbally confirms that bending came from the lion turtles; people just assume that. Simply put, we have a lot of dialogue that reinforces the Bending animals, but very little about the lion turtles. All and all, I think the bending animals are the originals, and the lion turtles were only meant to explain where the Avatar got his/her power.

Your later paragraphs are basically it. Here's one important thing to pay attention to. So notice in the episodes, they never called it "bending". They always called it the "power of the element". Like you said, Wan was actually shown learning from a dragon. And in the same episode, the guy from the fire turtle was amazed by how Wan wields fire and described it as "using fire like it's an extension of his body". This harkens back to even in the start of AtLA, Katara said that she wasn't a waterbender yet, despite having the power of water. Toph also described earthbending as part of the badgermoles' senses and their way of interacting with the world. In a way, it's like bending is the art form itself and using it as an extension of the body, while the lion turtles just gave the innate power. Think of having a sword, but without actually practicing the art itself, it won't be that useful. And after 10 thousand years, the distinction between bending and the "the power" became moot, like how meanings and symbolisms of legends in real life become mixed up over time. Oma and Shu could simply just be legends with inaccuracies. Or it was kinda right, if we're taking into account the true essence of "bending". Maybe they had the power of earth beforehand, and just learned to use it as an extension of their body. Also, even in Book 3 Change, after the whole lion turtle "bending" origin had been established, Tenzin still referred to the sky bisons as the original airbenders. This was in S3E7 Original Airbenders :) This would also explain the question of, "if they just learned from the animals, why can't nonbenders like Sokka just go observe them and learn".

Since Legend of Korra there's always been the question of which came first, The Lion Turtles or the Bending Animals. I'm more inclined to think the Bending Animals came first because of Moon and Ocean Spirits. In the ATLA season 1 finale, we are shown that the Moon and Ocean Spirits are the source of all waterbending as well as being the first waterbenders, hence all waterbending ceased when the Moon Spirit was captured. Since the Water Lion Turtle couldn't have come before the Moon and Ocean Spirits, it would make logical sense that the Bending Animals existed before the Lion Turtles.

Well not really. The portals to the spirit world only existed in the legend of Korra timeline, not ATLA. His spirit was sent to the Fog of lost souls after he drowned in the canal

I mean... that's basically killing him in a way. His body is never found and when you're in the spirit world its just your soul in there. The fog of lost souls is basically purgatory, your body will die because you can't leave the spirit world to nourish it but your soul can't move on to their world's version of the afterlife. By the time Tenzin, Kaya, and Bumi meet him his body would be long gone so he's basically dead in limbo at that point Aiwei in LoK is another example of that. He meditated into the spirit world and Zaheer threw him into the fog, so his body will eventually wither and die since he can't "wake up" to feed and hydrate himself

I'm kinda fascinated that each elemental mastery has some sort of style, disability, and utter commitment to abandon all earthly things to resembles Each animals. (Help me I don't know Waterbenders) For a True Fire bender to master it like Wan, Zuko and Aang did, they "Danced" with the Dragons to gain flexibility and better fire bending. Due to Toph's blindness like the Badgermoles, she become one of the Greatest Earthbender. And, Zaahir's commitment to abandon eartly desire like forget Pa'li and his buddies to gain Flight, he gained Flight and become like Sky Bisons.
