That's true. Seeing a firebender generate fire from anywhere but their body is very strange. This makes Jeong Jeong not only unpredictable for his opponents, but makes his attacks so devastating when unleashed that he's nearly unstoppable when he gets going. Plus, he's so skilled, his movements have no telegraph; He doesn't act like a firebender. He'll drop into a traditional horse stance like an earthbender, then rotate and pump his arms like a waterbender, and then WOOSH! A wall of fire about twenty feet high rushes away, crossing water, without harming the forest. He's got insane control of his inner fire.

Who were ever unfortunate to see the two legendary dragons that helped the other avatar truly makes him a person who cant be fully trusted although. Iroh unlike traditional fire benders is able to bend fire to his will as if it were water and take an almost lava like state for a short period of time. That and he uses it very similar to air bending based on aangs moves truly say alot for his mastery. He could probably master almost all elements due to how similar his bending is to fire and water earth bending might need adjustment. But regardless it wont be beyond doubt he could this man can make his body both hot as steel for hibernation and proper body regulation to avoid hibernation during the winter. Also be able to use fire in a non aggressive spiritual way to preserve himself by making his body a bit colder or warmer so most injuries aren't fatal or make him die from bleeding. It won't be a surprise given almost no fire bender has such insane levels of fire control down to the very spiritual aspects. Absolutely, and the fact how Monk Gyatso managed to defeat multiple fire benders while they had Sozins comet definitely says something. Air itself is everywhere, so no matter where you’re fighting you could be thrown off a cliff, pushed into a volcano, or straight up drowned. Air bending seems so pretty and peaceful because of the air nomads and how we saw Aang use it for silly entertainment when he wasn’t fighting, but it’s probably the most powerful bending out there.

Well, I think that airbending was the less "affected" by this changes, because the technic and tradition were almost extinguished by the war and after all, Tenzin was the only master (now we also have Jinora yeaay) left in the world, now, in a few years we'll see differences and new styles of fight between the new Air Nation and those who denied to join with Tenzin (remember? a lot of people don't wanted to be airbenders).
@GalacticYuna4 жыл бұрын
That's a good shout, but its already partially proven that airbending has changed a lot. Remember when in TLOK Jinora got captured with baby sky bison? The way the fought was far more head on, without much evasion

@@GalacticYuna I agree, but you must remember: those people grew up in Earth Kingdom, they developed a very different way to think, but the original airbending are very similar, obviously we'll see a lot of new masters teaching different from the tradition, but this is very sad, airbending will be more close to the other offensive styles of fight, and the evasive and defensive approach always catch me, but everything changes right? I can't be so stuck with this thought, because like everything in life, the new Air Nation will be transformed.
@GalacticYuna4 жыл бұрын
@@Charlie_likesSoup i had a little trouble understanding you, but i will try replying. Airbending styles are defined by the users of the discipline. Its coincidental that they are mainly from the earth kingdom, and inconsequentially, airbending has changed. I wouldn't say airbending is defensive, but evasive and passive. The new airbenders are still evasive, but they've lost a lot of the wit and cunning that comes with being an airbender and become a bit more aggressive
@Charlie_likesSoup4 жыл бұрын

@dandyspacedandy3 жыл бұрын
I had this idea for a fire bender with a lack of both aggression and motivation, constantly pushing through his own hedonic treadmill. As a result, he can't generate their own flames, leading to him constantly carrying around an oil lantern for self defense. Of course, he doesn't want to use up all his fuel in drawn out fights, and he generally doesn't feel comfortable directly manipulating fire if not to extinguish it. So his first inclination when using fire in a fight is to manipulate the smoke instead. *That* is something he's able to manipulate freely, like an air bender. Biggest caveat being that he needs a source of fire to generate more smoke, similarly to how fire benders can make flames grow without directly shooting their own fire into the flames.

This video made me appreciate the legend of Korra more. The detail that they put in in the different characters and their fighting style Edit: Did anyone that commented on my comment watch this video?? I’m talking about how different some of the other characters fight and the main characters in the show. I talking about Kuvira and how she dodges other people attacks rather than blocking it like earthbender in atla and how Korra’s dad fight with his more brutal and close combat fighting style or how Kya fights like air bender when she is a waterbender. And I love how how lavabenders fight. When Bolin discovers that he can lava bend his (and Ghazan) moves isn’t like a regular earthbender it becomes a type of hybrid bending between water and earth bc lava is a mix a solid mass and liquid. I was more focused on those characters and not pro bending. I’ll repeat myself. Did anyone of the people in this comment thread watch the video???

@Orbital Nexus well it's shit, and it's just a plot because the animators were on a budget, do you remember that episode of ATLA where Iroh tells Zuko about the 4 nations and how he learned from their culture and how each nation has it's own fighting style (because you know each nation bends something different) , well guess what you gonna have to forget that episode because they threw that logic away when they decided to animate LOK, and also why can every firebender and their mother bend lighting? I thought only skilled firebender (like Azula) achieve that, and also the way Bolin discovered that he can lava bend and the way korra discovered that she can Airbend is just stupid
@erin39674 жыл бұрын
IM COOL ???? Why is it so hard to believe that a pro sport would be different from classical or traditional ways of fighting? A master swordsman is radically different from a boxer, but they’re both still fighters. Also, lightning bending was only a royal thing *during the 100 year war.* after, i assume zuko/iroh taught how to efficiently lightning bend. As an example as to why it takes no time to lightning bend in korra, but in atla it takes like 5 seconds, imagine a musket and a modern handgun. The musket takes a while to load and pack the powder into, but now it’s much more efficient and fast, with just as much, if not more, power.

This is pretty interesting. Personally, I hated the fact that in TLOK bending seemed sooooooo weak. Earthbending was reduced to hurling tiny rocks at ppl , firebending seemed relatively weaker and waterbending wasn't huge waves of water more like small whips and whatnot. It just seemed so pathetic compared to TLA. I personally just went with the fact that in TLA it was war, war, war and that it was sink or swim. Hence, why the bending was stronger compared to all these peasants in TLOK. But what you said about taking into consideration the architecture of their surroundings is def a point to consider. So thanks :)

There’s also the fact that the benders LOK favored the speed of their attacks over the the sheer power of them. In ATLA, giant waves and huge rocks that were bended took a lot of time to generate. It is Also that in TLOK many based themselves on a sports version of bending. Whereas bending in TLA was more Often used as a real combat technique. It kind of influences how you fight and how strong it is. Same with the people in the metal city (forgot the name), they did it more as An art style, which you can compare to how many tradititonal Martial arts are thought nowadays. In TLA, people learned bending because its part of their culture and was important to learn to help defend your home. @cheetah219 Жыл бұрын
I know two years late, but also when zuko fights aang on the beach towards the end of Book 3, he also uses some earthbending styles to create walls of protective fires as opposed to what he did on the pirate ship where he surrounded himself with fire. I also noticed zuko uses much more free flowing/water and air movements in his bending in Book 3 probably drawing from his experiences fighting aang and Katara when Iroh began to open zuko up to how different styles can be used to benefit one's bending. Early seasons, zuko was far more obsessive over learning advanced sets but as the show went on, this aspect was quickly dropped in favor of him now learning more about other bending styles and also show casing his proficiency with non bending arts. I actually think one missed part of the show was sokka and zuko sword fighting or training together. That would have been a really good scene

I still have issues with Bolin's lavabending, there's that frame of him using its boxing foundation from probending on ghazan in the cave, but aside from that his lavabending doesn't seem to explicitly draw from any martial philosophy or form. I'm not fond of the "genetic" reason Bolin might be able to lavabend, but I can't recall any instance in the show of his character or habits being conducive to learning lavabending either, which is a matter change much more difficult than water -> ice. Some scenes w korra or mako teaching him fire or waterbending thought or evasion for probending would have helped sell it, otherwise it just looks like he was given the ability bc he couldn't metalbend. Ghazans style also draws from bha gua (?) martial arts, but he similarly fails to display personal traits, philosophy, or form that comes through in his bending. @@burrito8443 I thought it was a little weird in ATLA because it was a very random power, but in TLOK I think they made it pretty cool. I'd definitely like to see it explained though; like are they born with that third "eye/tattoo" thing? Or do you learn this technique somehow? Idk lol

I’m fairly certain that Iroh gained his title “Dragon of the west” because the title dragon was given to those who could defeat a dragon, thought to be the most skilled firebenders. Iroh was thought to have killed the last dragon, but as we know from the episode where zuko and aang literally dance with dragons, he instead learned from them and told people he had killed the last dragon to protect them. It’s why Iroh’s Firebending is not fuelled by rage and possibly why he is able to keep himself warm with his breath very well

Imagine the struggle and cunning needed to convince everyone in the royal family and the war generals that he had in fact slain a dragon without a piece of dragon head, heart or even like an eye ball or something for evidence. Or were Ozai and Azulon like "Oh cool, we trust you"? I suppose he could've retrieved a scale or two from the masters.

Everyone says that lightning bending shouldn’t be as common as it is in LoK, but I don’t see it as a problem. With a much more cooperative society, it would be much easier for knowledge of sub-bending techniques like lightning and metal to become widespread, and even though only a fraction of the respective bending population could actually use the techniques, they wouldn’t be the only ones to have tried. Lightning bending especially seems more accessible to a world that’s not in the middle of a war: Having a safe, predictable lifestyle is much more condusive to the peace of mind required to generate lightning.
@whatupguys14 жыл бұрын
That is a very detailed analysis of nearly every character's style. At this point i'm not even sure if the authors of LoK actually intended for these styles to reflect personality traits and backgrounds to that extent but kudos to whoever wrote this video for noticing them, and kudos to the authors of Avatar if they actually put this much thought into it.

@jeffgumawid75544 жыл бұрын
@@PxndaCakes I actually have a rough story for it in my head. Divide it in Arcs for all 4 nations. All of these require the new Avatar's intervention of course. Earth: Oil is discovered in the desert just as Korra was about to go. The Sandbender peoples get wealthy and start a kingdom. Now the new Avatar, from the new Sandbender kingdom, must defend his land from the new Earth Confederation who wants to take the wealth by force. Air: Zaheer's death doesn't end trouble within the Air Nation. As the old Air Temples are revived, a Civil War brews between those who follow the ways of Aang and Tenzin (North, East,Air Temple Island), and the new monks inspired by Zaheer (West and South Air temple) Fire: The Fire Nation is unhappy with its place within Republic City and the world in general. The old war machine is slowly going back to life and it is up to a young Sun Warrior to finally start a revolution to overthrow the Royal Family. The Avatar must choose between old loyalties and new ideas. Water: The wealth of the Northern Air Kingdom leaves the South struggling to survive. A new spiritual leader of the south moves to do the unthinkable: Steal the moon and water spirits and reclaim the south's spiritual lead.

You did an exceptional job analyzing the reason bending styles look the way they do. I learned so much, and things make fit in perfectly to the characters and their styles. You also showcase the effort the creators put when designing all this stuff which many times goes by unnoticed. Thank you for the video.

I think waterbenders can master bloodbending without full moon if they practice a lot, like focus on it. I guess they only thought it can only be done during full moon because it would be easier since waterbenders are at their peak power. just my thoughts.

@@assealabdu5204 exactly. I think the reason its not as widespread as metal bending is because it was declared illegal and therefore it was not passed down. And the other 2 proficient bloodbenders aside from katara died.

Terific! Thank you for this comprehesive and logical analysis of the bending styles. I dont know where all the hate is coming from on the Legend of Korra. i guess they're having a hard time accepting the changes in bending and the story line maybe. bt if they could just consider the evolution of bending in LOK, they might appreciate it
@hiroprotagonitis4 жыл бұрын
The hate mostly comes from the aesthetic of the modern bending style, over the course of the show, it increasingly seems to take on mma and boxing as an influence at the cost of all styles looking more uniform, punchy, and less stylized. People also like the link to traditional martial arts which very much came through in the original series - it seems the martial arts consultant wasnt as involved. The animation in korra, while gorgeous, also didn't emphasize bending the same way the original did
@andrei07ification4 жыл бұрын
@@hiroprotagonitis good point but it seems natural that the bending in LOK has less essence since they are disconected spiritually which the writers tried to adress by Korra opening the spirit world portals.
@hiroprotagonitis4 жыл бұрын
@@andrei07ification i agree in general, just clarifying that while it makes sense in universe, the dislike of modern bending is mostly an aesthetic dispute (a major selling point of atla) by those whose itch for the trad styles isnt scratched until arguably the red lotus arc. i wish they were able to more clearly show a return to traditional forms in the city proper post-book 2
