You're forgetting the part about Dr. Sanus Lorrik from the Tion Hegemony who intentionally created scores of mutant rakghouls and tricked pilots who he'd paid to ship them to various worlds so he could have rakghoul armies on them under his control (the shipment to Tatooine was indeed part of this as well). This was all in the Old Republic MMO game which you've cited on other facts about the virus so I'm surprised that aspect was left out.
