It is a LSM (Linear synchronous motor) moving the catch car which attaches to the train at the launch zone and is then is propelling the train till it detaches at the inversion. Also disney has it's own power grid (actually multiple now) but to reduce the chance of a brown or black out their is a substation behind the coaster that's dedicated for parts of studios including Tower of Terror and RNRC. I do believe you are correct about the "generators" though as it would be a lot of power to generate suddenly... and instead it helps hold the energy needed for the launch.

It is actually a Linear Synchonous Motor (LSM) system, not a Linear Induction Motor (LIM) system. But you are correct in that it is definitely NOT a tire-drive system.
