I remember back in early days, people ran public uber level games all over the place, i reached 99 on so many characters so fast, this was also a really efficient way to get perfect torches since you had 7 other players there and it dropped torches for all of them. Torches during those times were just a typical thing that even low levels would have and people would have multiple accounts with countless mules that just had torches. Good times and I really miss those days.

i remember doing them on my melee zealot dueler back then, died like 75+ time it was in a pub game so it was like p5+, my zealot had -res before meph lol, had -100 all with his conviction, ended up killing after bunch of time, and lucky enough to snag the torch in front of other and id'd a pally torch, tought at that time it was giving you + skill to whatever class u killed it with. i was in the first ones to have a torch back then, i went back into melee duels games and ppl were all asking what was the firestorm from, to my surprise, even the richest dude in melee duels back then didnt have torches when i had mine, it gave me a huge advantage for couple days. only sad thing was i realized i had to remake my pally which was 97 at the time, since you couldnt reroll chars like today. life tap was the only reason i could kill meph, and had a deathz/coa/levi/rend build that boosted my CB which helped me alot i guess, ed/ar exile, just pure melee, no resist lol. pretty sure i tested couple thing like botdz for leech and dracs 280 edc 2422 eth shaft setup, fools weapon fort, etc, 213 gores 120/140/40/15/13 dungo/ 60/20 rend/ 399/30/15 coa/ 65/121 1818 eth vortex exile 16/269 roll, bunch of 32020s, 3hs 6/6/4 cta, and much more yet, all this high value items were mainly useless vs ubers. but we were not aware what awaited us when we opened it xD

My first character that league was a light sorc because i really wanted to try out infy. I am good at trading and finding things that are worth something to other players so i also got rich very very fast that league. My second character was my first attempt into uber trist, a double swing barb because i have always hated paladins in all its forms due to how boring they are to play. Now i had no clue what i was really facing but everyone said "no spellcaster" so a barb it is, and since its bosses double swing is a lot better then whirlwind. On my first attempt i got three portals up, but lillith was really fucking rough killing my merc in like 2-3 hit and me in like 2-4, that was when i realized that res was very important, so i stocked up on psn immunity potions for lillith and the battle was easily won. My first attempt in uber tristram ended in disaster, i ran into meph first (when they had random spawn points) the conviction aura just killed me and with no other resources to go for at the time it was a failure. But i also knew what was actually killing me, the convition aura, so the next day i sold some stuff and changed the enigma on my barb to a Chains of Honor and swapped the rare jewel out of my arreats for an um rune. Second attempt was straight forward and easy, all in all maybe 10 minutes but i never cared about how fast i could do it. My choice of weapons were also suboptimal, i was playing with botd ba and beast ba. Even though a lot of players said that grief was better then botd. By then a metric ton of smiters where offering uber trist services on the condition that if it was a pala torch it went to them. Personally i never bothered about it just setting an easy price of 2 ists for a guaranteed torch if they had the keys. So all of a sudden i had a long cue of people wanting me to do uber tristram leaving all the paladins in the dust. Now it wasnt the fastest, my only source of cb was gore riders, and with the still random spawns of the uber bosses and finding the organ holders my average time was roughly 5-7 minutes. But getting on average 20 ists an hour and a cue to last me for weeks, it made me from very rich to insanely rich. First order of the day were changing my 2 +3 bo spears to 2 cta 3 because lillith hits like she has been working out every day with a very very hefty dose of growth hormones, and mephisto were still dealing a lot of damage. Second order of business lowering the time, so the first thing was changing gore riders for goblin toe and arreats for the set item helm with cb. Swapped botd for a good 39x grief, swapped coh for the assassin runeword armor that could proc fade. Still doing the organ bosses with enigma of course and i got the time down to like 3-5 minutes. But never any lower then that.

As a legend of d2 lod and having literally done and I’m not exaggerating over 100,000 Tristram runs…. Never having botted… I was the key runner. I did all the keys. And I mean all of them. For like 5 different botters. We’re talking I had 3-4 chars full of each key. And I know it had some issues but I feel the barbarians time may be coming. He was insane good at killing Lilith duri and Izzy and he could absolutly solo the Ubers. And having dabbled in pvp before I stopped playing and having competed in a tournament and winning the melee side of it I know how strong the Barb can be there too… it makes sense that sooner or later a new configuration will come up and I won’t be surprised to see the Barb take over. Let’s be honest… you have historically needed three things for Ubers. Now. Some builds don’t use this but for the most part you need Life tap Crushing blow Prevent monster heal/ poison All the builds mentioned more less use those three things. The javazon pending on how it was being used might not so much but… But yeah the Barb is fore sure one of the top melee chars so those three things are pretty easy to get on him… the problem is AR… same with the kicksin… so we demon limb up and get AR life charms and were pretty good. I’d add also it would be cool to see world record made on players 8. I remember many mannnnny times trying to help some people complete their Ubers and I’d join a game and it was nearly full and I’d have to go and run their Ubers and the difference in difficulty was pretty steep. Also feel like exp farming for non botters in the Uber areas is still a great thing… not as good as it once was sure but… Also… in the million or so Ubers I’ve done what always blew my mind was in fact the javazon. I’d have my greif ebotd Barb and a buddy would have a smiter and once in awhile we would be joined by a friend… and when they opted to go javazon it was hilarious. Like… I’ve watched enough Uber runs to tell when something was up. I’ve never seen the Uber melt so damn fast as when we had that damn javazon… And those pre buffs may sound annoying… but my god when it was found out about the magic find glitch ghosts…. I’d be sitting there prebuffing with those idiots for an hour…. Still in my mind the coolest thing found in d2 to date… once we find out what the standard dose or the chat gem I’m say that is the coolest d2 thing of recent times.
