8:08 I remember the days when we were told that using presets is cheating and that we should create our own patches. I'm glad there's less people who think like that these days.
@Beatsbasteln

I always feel like the term 'cheating' doesn't really manage to describe what the problem with extreme preset- and loops-abuse is. Because if you were cheating the music industry with that everyone would be rich and famous. But the people at the top are just good at creating emotional value for the masses by referencing popcultural movements and they might sometimes be using loops and presets to do that, but it's not what defines their work. on the other side of the coin we have the sounddesigners and honest musicians, who are no sellouts and just wanna find innovative sounds that spark new exciting emotions. they can also use loops and presets to accomplish that, but they most likely also need some other skills. so who are you cheating if you are defining yourself with your dependency on loops and presets, but yourself? they are just tools in your toolbox. if you don't rely solely on them, you can use them only when it's their time, and that's nice

Wish you would’ve showcased the early 00’s plug ins a little more like U-he, psp audioware, NI fm7, pro-53. Camel phat, crystal. So many cool synths and plugins from back in the day. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I started in 2002 with the first m-box. I still use a couple from that era like waves rvox and some audio damage stuff. Good times.

Reason but also Rebirth were really important though, this broke the way for digital sound generation instead of only processing.

People hate on Waves, but they've been doing it longer than anybody else really. Watched companies come and go in their lifetime and they're still making arguably some of the best plugins in history.
@ErrorTheProducer
@ErrorTheProducer 2 ай бұрын
Yeah they are some of the best for sure. It's good how they respected the pre existing perpetual licence holders too 🔥

People are not hating on Waves for the quality of their plugins. People hate on Waves for their rack-rent extortionist product policies. Converting already-paid-for _lifetime_ licences "back" into _pay-per-year?_ They had it coming, and they deserve every bit of the hate.

Their DSP is fine, it’s just their shitty business practices that wind most of us up. They are practical useless for MacOS users unless you enjoy paying for the same plugins multiple times over…

@@BappinProductions yes but thankfully PCs gained ground over the last couple decades and new creators are mostly on PCs. The main selling point of MAC is also its killing point of having one supported OS. Sucks to be PC sometimes and sucks to be MAC sometimes. #teamPC

I'm sure you had to leave out a lot of stuff otherwise it'd be a 2-hour video, but man you skipped over some important milestones (imho of course). Like all the software synths before the VST format, like Rebirth or the first Reaktor.

loops are still cheating and if that's your main source of inspiration you are not a real musician. you're a sound editor

There are some exceptions to your statement. For example the entire discography of RJD2 consists of sample-based music. Also a lot of sampling in JDilla and Flying Lotus beats, which are all great. But those producers don't just import and arrange a bunch of pre-mixed splice loops. They can also work with audio that was not produced for the purpose of remixing and combine various sample sources with other musical techniques like different forms of synthesis and complex sampling-techniques like resampling and slicing as well. Their unique styles and skillsets is what makes their music standout from the rest. It is what makes it memorable and important. The power of the music never comes from the samples, but from the person who uses them. And some people might think that this argument works in favor of the loop-defenders, cause it could mean someone who only uses loops could make great music. but I think that this argument works the other way around, because it means that it's a waste of time to make excuses to other musicians on the internet about how they are just being more modern or cool, when they could have just used that time to hone in on their craft and learn something that will shape their own style. and that something might involve loops, but especially a great mindset.

@@rjbush7955 watching teenage producers argue about credits and points over stolen loops is one of the most surreal and hilarious things I have ever witnessed... unison midi chord pack commercials are sooo funnyyy when the foreign black dude wit da fro sitting in that etsy living room says "it gives me so much inspiration!" and he starts that fake turnt head bop.... I lose it every time

@@GgWifi-ot2sh midi chord packs. Yeah, fair point. Now that is laziness when you simply can’t be arsed to figure out a chord progression. To use an old folk’s phrase, it’s the musical equivalent of painting by numbers.
