I was waiting for this episode, and I knew the Sh4D was going to get roasted. It's a good job the case is black, because any other colour would be charred black after this going over by 'your man Florian' who can smell weakness in an audio tool from 300m and will exploit it without mercy. But here come some paradoxes. Paradox 1 is the killer jams he gets out of it here, with some cone destroying bass tones and genuinlely interesting techno shenanigans. Paradox 2 is that I own one, and despite agreeing with all of its faults here (and some extras you didn't even mention such as when you motion record on any filter setting and then go to the tweak the filter later and get an almighty mess), I use mine loads. It's a wannabe groovebox which does not make the grade, it's a wannabee tone box which does not make the grade, it was thrown together on two rainy afternoons in Roland HQ using the sweepings from the floor of all the other synths they were doing, but I'm keeping mine because it does a job!

Great sounding and a quick synth, you can make the basic and also complicated evolving sounds with it. So i like it and I like it’s sound clarity which doesn’t even need eqing. Has a cleaner sound next to my digitone with harsh and dark tones. @@minimal3734 depends on what type of music you want to make gear choices differ, yes this is not a deep synth but if you check house and techno tracks this has got every sound in it straight to the point and you can tweak it how ever you want. So its a synth that will take you fast if you know where you want to head at. Unless you want to go experimental or want to make evolving ambient sounds yes then you will need other synths which has got so many lfos, oscillators, muators etc. With my repect I think Roland made a good entry and intermediate level multitimbral synth. 😇😇🏄♂️💥

This originally sold for 650 and now u can get for 300 on reverb and there is a ton of them and nobody is buying them

The sound is meh, so hardly surprised.

Well, sold one over here - you and Carl Craig, tbh. It arrives tomorrow, For me the thing is a 5 part groovebox with every inch covered in performance-centered controls that runs on batteries. I hope my Keylab61 can run on usb power because the dream is a portable rig for under a grand.

You wrote some amazing music, once again. But this may be the first episode where you literally talked me out of purchasing something I was planning to buy! Bad Gear usually has the opposite effect, lol.

@@AudioPilz I have bought a few Roland's I wouldn't of dreamed of because I saw it on bad gear. They should be kissing your butt, and sending out a free Gaia 2.

Fascinating take. Most written reviews were very positive with an asterisk about usability. You still coax great tunes out of it.

So yesterday, with hard earned cash burning a hole in my wallet and a need to release some G.A.S. I ventured out intent on buying the Hydrasynth desktop (space dictates), after an hour noodling on the ASM I felt zero love for it all (contrary to what all the synth reviewers are saying about it), so I turned my attention to a neglected and overlooked SH-4d nearby, after twenty minutes with it I parted with my cash and left the shop grinning like a goon. Spent the whole day with it and couldn't be happier. Moral of the story, 'only your ears and fingers can relieve your G.A.S.'

Kinda makes me regret my thought of trading a Model:samples+a Dreadbox Typhon for it,thinking I could minimise my set and not really lose anything. Now I’m not really sure 😂 Thanks for the great video!

Well covered . So many synth reviewers went gaga over this , and it seemed too good to be true . Your honest take on the gear is moist appreciated . Hybrid zencore hardware that can't use zencore samples is a double whamny for a dawless guy , looking for a groovebox with sample record (not import). Why doesnt anyone make a TE PO-33KO with more memory , a powersupply, midi in, great polyphony and cv out ? Oh. Wait . I think Uli is working on one .

I own one of these and think it's fun to horse around with. This video is great and I didn't hear anything untrue. Hopefully Roland sees this as fair criticism. It'd be sweet to see what could be done via firmware update.
