Arsenal Summoner has a bunch of stupid restrictions because it ROTAs "Guardian" monsters, but it's not supposed to ROTA a bunch of incidental cards that were translated into "Guardian"s. Calling it "Guard" prevents it from being added to the stupid list. Now is that the definitive reason for the localization? idk edit: missed the answer above

The worst part about super soldier is that u can only search it with gateway, some people argued that it’s better to play the very first literal Black Luster Soldier. U can search it and the ritual spell with pre-preparation of rites, and u just give it good effects with beginning knight and evening. I tested it back in the day and it was still jank, but slightly more consistant jank.

Correction, Begining and Twilight effects arent 1 or, are both, also, Begining is not destroy, is banish a monster on field and 2nd attack on destruction by battle So a BLS Ritual Summoned with them can banish 2 monsters from the field, banish a card in hand and if it destroys by battle, attack again in a row The last part, in a row, is rather restrictive, cause if you attack with another monster, it no longer can attack again Edit: also begining and twilight have aditional effects when banished, those guys are the swizz army knife of BLS rituals

I believe you cannot strike a summon from card effect such as a ritual spell. You can only strike special summons through game mechanic such as a synchro. Warning would have worked though.

I like to think the BLS support is inspired by Superman. OG BLS is Earth-1. Super Soldier is Earth-2 BLS. (Colors!) Chibi BLS, Evening and Twilight, are Superman Red and Blue. Synthesis is baby BLS leaving Krypton. Envoy of Chaos is Superboy. Sacred Soldier could be revived supes after Doomsday.

The Celtic Guardian deck actually has some synergy with some other warrior cards, like T.G. Striker, Claw of Hermos, and Goyo Guardian, giving them synchro playability and piercing. I had some fun mixing those together, but the problem playing them now is that they're too slow, lack protection, and so many dead draws.

I use Marauding Captain as my normal summon, then special Noble Arms, then special the OG Celtic Guardian. Or I just a say “screw it” and summon the earth barrier statue

The real issue with the the Black Luster Soldier archetype has very little to do with lack of recursion, as MBT didn't really utilize a lot of its recursive effects, and the protection it had at the time was not above average but not terrible either. The main issue is that it's linear since the archetype is all focused on beating down monsters and doesn't punish backrow. If the cards could banish any card it would've probably fixed most of its issues.

Neither, Iron Wall just takes precedent. Nothing can be banished while it is up. The same applies to any effect that would otherwise require something to be banished. If something is special summoned and requires being banished when it leaves the field or at the end of the turn then it will just go to the graveyard or stay on the field instead since the banish cannot happen. Same applies to a card like Bottomless which destroys and then banishes. The summoned monster will be destroyed but will go to the graveyard on resolution because it can't be banished.

19:00 - Different Dimension Capsule and Lightforce Sword: "Bitch... are we a fucking joke to you?!?" 36:51 - The saddest thing of all is that even when Konami made a Trial event in Master Duel just a couple months ago for the release of the Inherited Unity pack and the new BLS monster? The *ONLY* reason the loaner deck was tier zero was because it had 3 copies of Wyverburster and Collapserpent to make the deck stupidly consistent. Between that, the fact that the other decks weren't that strong, and everyone had been trained by Ranked to always go 1st no matter, it made going 2nd and completely obliterating them in 1 turn piss easy.

As someone who loves the Black Luster Soldier archetype and even built the deck in Master Duel (look, everyone's allowed ONE yugiboomer archetype they stan for, right?), Joseph absolutely hits the nail on the head. The fact that Super Soldier has absolutely no protection from anything makes BLS a purely reactive, board-breaker type deck that then dies to any combat trick or, god forbid, getting Ash Blossomed before you can even bring your big guy out. It wouldn't be until the Link era that we'd finally get a decent Boss monster.
