The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey turns 10 today!!! I remember my sister and I saw it together after Christmas I'm happy director Peter Jackson brought us back to middle earth 9 years after the original trilogy ended This was my first real introduction to Martin Freeman as an actor and he does amiable job playing a younger version of Bilbo Baggins with the quiet confidence and tenderness the late Ian Holm established Really loved Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield leading the rest of the Dwarves, he's a lot more dignified than Gimli Terrific seeing old cast members play their original roles Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and the late Christopher Lee as Saruman Glad Andy Serkis came back as Gollum, like he never left and the scene of riddles in the dark is the best handled The stone giant battle was awesome bringing something new to the table Radaghast brings a silly quality although at times his presence can feel awkward and out of place Most of the Dwarves barely have any personality making them less memorable Odd they split it in 3 parts but Jackson is able to allow audiences to immerse themselves in the world, take more inspiration from Tolkien's writing, and get back into the swing of things Even if this prequel trilogy is a mixed bag much of what's presented stays true to the original book despite its lengthy running time

I don't think it's as great as the LOTR trilogy but I actually liked this film. I think it's okay.

Agree with Leon so much about liking the Hobbit more than LOTRs. You do get more invested and care more about the characters and honestly it's a much better and more touching story.
