Rough choice in that time frame. Took balls. I pussied out in ‘70. My first biggest mistake in life. Many more afterwards. Tried to join after 9/11, was too old. Got 4 family members and several friends who are Marines. Great people.

In my boot camp platoon we had 3 black kids and 1 black drill instructor. About two or three days before swim qual they had us all "on line" which is just us standing at attention in the center of the squad bay and the black instructor came out and said "you, you and you" pointing to all the black recruits "y'all are gonna fail" then just walked away. There was so many of us trying not to laugh after he said that because we didn't want to go to the pit and get fucked up for breaking bearing lmao

I can attest to this. They asked who can swim and didn't even separate my group. We just jumped in with everyone else and if you were drowning they pulled you out. Made you do it again to make sure....then separated you and gave remedial training. Which consisted of teaching how to float with your legs on the side of the pool....then they push you off so you're whole body is in the water and they teach you a basic stroke. As soon as I swam my very first 20 meters they immediately pulled me out and made me jump off the diving board. Which if I remember correctly was 3 stories high or so. I sank to the bottom and didn't know what to do. They pulled me out and made me do it again. It was pretty brutal but I was on top of the world that day when I passed.

Semper Fi Brothers. I grew up swimming in ditches, canals, rivers and bayous. I was one of the dark greens that could swim. But I definitely remember many that couldn't swim. One guy was panicked and the swim instructor just kept feeding him the long pole until his panicked ass sank to the bottom of the pool. He survived, but he drank chlorinated pool water that day. Lol

This story reminds me of an FTX in basic at Benning. We had this one guy who had a magnet for horrible shit. We were out learning Cover and Move through the trees. This poor soul dove for cover behind a tree and hot covered from rifle to boots in shit. He smelled so bad. Our drill instructors just dumped a huge bottle of hand sanitizer on him to try and clean him up. That is when we learned not to shit on trees because you may have to use that tree for cover.

I was the only white dude in the shallow end of the pool. The Black DI told all the dark green swimmers that sharks wont eat you, because they think you all are wale shit. I lost it and almost drown in 4 feet of water. Semper Fi

Damn this reminds me... we had a set of identical twins in my platoon. LOL The drill instructors tried experiments to see if one of them got IT'd, would the other one feel his pain? For some reason they commonly mistook me for one of those brothers. Boot camp was a weird fucking place.

Dennis Prager was right. You two are awesome. I love your approach and your humor is Tyler Perry funny. God Bless America.
